LEAVENWORTH’S STORY is an inspiring one of a Washington town that reinvented itself due to the loss of its railway and timber industries in the 1920s. By the 1960’s the town’s steady decline led to the decision to invest in tourism and remodel the town as a Bavarian Alpine village.
Today, the old world architecturally designed buildings are home to an array of specialty shops and restaurants, we offer a diverse array of accommodations, and have an active year-round calendar of events including festivals, music and live theater.
The resemblance of the surrounding countryside to Germany’s Bavarian Alps that originally inspired the architecture, means we also have a diverse number of outdoor recreation activities to enjoy all four seasons.

The Bavarian Village & Parks
LEAVENWORTH, WASHINGTON, is a charming Bavarian village nestled in the picturesque Cascade Mountains. Known for its unique architectural style and festive atmosphere, the village transports visitors to a quaint European setting. FRONT STREET PARK
Featuring our gazebo and Maibaum (Maipole), Front Street Park is the heartbeat of our downtown. Just a few steps away, find shops and live entertainment. Watch festivals and parades unfold right before your eyes on our beautiful lawns and under our shade trees. In the winter, bring your sled and your sense of adventure while you barrel down our sledding hill under the Christmas lights while shoppers stroll and savor.
ENCHANTMENT PARK
Game on! Enchantment Park boasts two softball fields, a junior baseball field that doubles as a youth soccer field, our Bike Pump Park (paved), Skateboard Park and a playground. The parking lot can fit a large number of vehicles on site as well as up to 3 buses. Walking trails link directly to the city’s scenic Waterfront Park recreation area and Enchantment Bridge connects you to Blackbird Island.
WATERFRONT PARK
If you want to get away from it all without going far at all, we have the perfect solution. Nestled along the banks of the Wenatchee River just a few blocks from the downtown core, Waterfront Park is a birdwatcher’s heaven.
LIONS CLUB PARK
Located just off Highway 2 between City Hall and the community pool, Lions Club Park offers a sanctuary of shade trees and soft green grass. On Saturdays from June 1-October 12, our Leavenworth Community Farmers Market is in the park, where you will find local musicians performing during this vibrant celebration of local farmers, producers, and artisans.

Join us in January for Leavenworth’s Winter Karneval as we honor a German tradition dating back to the thirteenth century, commonly referred to as ‘Fasching’. Fire dancers, fireworks over the village, pub crawls and more mark January in the village.

Enjoy traditional alphorn music the last weekend in May in our amazing village setting for a weekend of visiting and local musicians playing these unique mountain instruments.
Oktoberfest in Leavenworth offers three fully programmed venues (beer gardens) over three weekends in downtown, with amazing music, dancing, food and beer! Tickets sell out so purchase your tickets online when the go on sale in early July at Leavenworth.org.
Autumn Leaf Festival, September 28-29, 2024
Founded in 1964 Leavenworth’s Autumn Leaf Festival celebrates the turning colors of the autumn leaves every year during the last full weekend of September. It is the village’s original festival and is capped by a grand parade though the village.

LEAVENWORTH is home to a variety of organizations who celebrate the arts and perform year-round at a variety of venues. Outdoor theater productions, galleries, art walks and educational experiences are all included in the Leavenworth arts and entertainment scene.
The Icicle Creek Center for the Arts is dedicated to bringing exceptional performances as well as educational experiences to the area. Their state-of-the-art facilities include a 230-capacity theater, a 100-capacity recital hall, and an outdoor stage for 700 people.
The Leavenworth Summer Theater (LST) hosts spectacular productions each year including classics like The Sound of Music and Hello Dolly. Their productions take place at the Ski Hill Amphitheater and the Leavenworth Festhalle.

FROM SPRING THROUGH FALL, recreation in and around town is enjoyed on long, comfortable, predominantly sunny days. Water-based recreation abounds in and around Leavenworth, from fishing and rafting to SUP and swimming. The Wenatchee River flows through town and is fed by one of its nearby tributaries -- Icicle Creek. The village is nestled in the middle of the Cascades, and the surrounding mountains are likened to the Bavarian Alps. The town’s elevation of 1,171 feet to the neighboring peaks rising above 5,000 feet feels much like many small towns in Bavaria. The popularity of people adventuring to over 800 miles of accessible trails for hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing is notable. • Know where you’re hiking. Trail guidelines can vary. Know before you go, whether a permit to hike a trail is necessary or if you need a parking pass.
• Never venture out on a trail without telling someone where you are planning on hiking, when you plan to begin the hike, and when you expect to return.
• Trailheads can be busy, especially during the summer months. When possible, carpool or use public transit if available.
• Consider public transit or shuttle to cut down the stress of parking.
• Bring the proper gear for the hike. This includes navigation, headlamps, sun protection, first aid, insect repellent, proper clothing and footwear, extra food and water, and more.
• Check the weather before you start, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
• Be careful to pack out everything you bring in, and well, anything anyone else may have left behind that you run across during the hike.

• Whether on the road or on the trail, always wear a helmet. Avoid open-toed shoes, and carry enough water for your whole ride.

WINTER
LEAVENWORTH is an authentic mountain town with outdoor recreation in its DNA. For skiers and snowboarders, the Leavenworth Ski Hill provides a rare communitybased winter sports treasure less than two miles from town. Operated by the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, Ski Hill features alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, the West Coast’s only ski jumping hill, groomed and lit fat bike trails, and the historic Ski Hill Lodge. Plain and Lake Wenatchee offer classic and skate skiing opportunities with easy scenic snowshoeing trails for every level of recreationist. Nearby Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge offer bigger mountain skiable terrain, including night operations.
Nordic Skiing in the Leavenworth area is some of the best in the state! The Icicle River Trail has 8km of trail and offers families scenic views, gentle terrain, and memories for years. Want a little more challenge? The Golf Course Trail, also 8km, comes alive once the snow flies! Climb rolling hills and drink in spectacular views of the Wenatchee River, not to mention the deer, osprey, or eagles you’ll find. Night skiing more your thing? You’ve come to the right place. The Ski Hill Trails include a 7km groomed course and 5km of trails lit nightly. Our home-grown Olympian, 2010 US Cross Country Ski Team member Torin Koos, tells us it’s one of his favorite excursions to keep in shape. The historic Ski Hill Lodge is the perfect place to warm up after a fun day…or night. Want to start skiing right downtown? Head to Waterfront Park for a short but beautiful trek on the 3km trails that follow the Wenatchee River only a few blocks from downtown. A little bit north of town around Lake Wenatchee and Plain, get a fun workout and enjoy the 22 km of Plain Valley Nordic Ski Trails and the four Lake Wenatchee Nordic Sno-Parks boasting over 50 km of groomed classic and skate ski trails.
If you need speed and endless powder runs, our Downhill and Snowboarding options are excellent. We have you covered with two first-class ski areas only 32 miles in each direction: Mission Ridge and Stevens Pass. Within a
yodeling distance, you’ll find our own Ski Hill, run by the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, which provides fun for all ages and abilities with an atmosphere perfect for families. That is not all; the Ski Hill boasts a 100-foot thrilling Tubing hill; you rent the tubes on site, and your day is complete with endless fun runs, followed by some hot cocoa in their historic lodge. There are great sledding options in town, at iconic Front Street Park, and at the Leavenworth Golf Course, which will delight kids and adults!
Your quintessential winter experience is incomplete without an old-fashioned Sleigh Ride with some actual horsepower as you travel by a river into the woods surrounded by snow-capped trees and breathtaking scenery. For fasterpaced travel in the snow experience, Snowmobiling is the way to go; whether you use one of our experienced tour operators or find an approved trail and bring your machine, Leavenworth is considered one of the premier snowmobile locations, with trail elevations of 2,500 to 7,000 and our average 150 inches of snowfall. Our snowfalls and scenic beauty make for perfect Snowshoeing. We have trails for all levels and rentals in town: beautiful forests, vast meadows, a feast for your eyes, and solitude for your soul. Offering recreational activities from camping, swimming in an alpine lake, kayaking, fishing, ride a horse, hike or snowshoe on miles of trails through a highland forest, or ski 50 km on Nordic trails. Come out and play or simply relax while enjoying a scenic picnic on the beach. Remember weekends are the busiest times and parking can be limited.
