We’ve made our one-day contact lenses plastic neutral through our partnership with Plastic Bank®. One-day contact lenses are defined as orders placed by customers for those products and includes products sold and distributed by CooperVision® in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Plastic neutrality is established by purchasing credits from Plastic Bank®. A credit represents the collection and conversion of one kilogram of plastic that may reach or be destined for waterways. CooperVision® purchases credits equal to the weight of plastic in our one-day contact lens orders in a specified time period. One-day contact lens plastic is determined by the weight of plastic in the blister, the lens and the secondary package (outer carton), including laminates, adhesives, and auxiliary inputs (e.g. ink). EssilorLuxottica’s scientists have harnessed the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and combined it with their understanding of consumer lifestyles to create the Varilux XR series. From studying more than 6,500 presbyopes to better understand their lifestyles and visual challenges, the group has gathered over one million data points to develop a breakthrough behavioural modelling system that predicts how individual presbyopes look at objects around them.
"The power of AI lies in the quantity, quality and variety of data and the way they’re the future of optometry in Wales, and the awards ceremony was a great way to celebrate some of our successes so far.” Clare is pictured receiving her award alongside (from left) host Vernon Kaye, Nigel Wingate from award sponsor the Outside Clinic, and Chris Bennett, Optician editor-in-chief. analysed," commented Norbert Gorny, co-chief operating officer at EssilorLuxottica.

Tune in on 14 March to the third in a series of complimentary global dry eye disease webinars produced by the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and Alcon. Dry Eye Spotlight 3: Management will be led by Professor Lyndon Jones, featuring Professors Jennifer Craig and James Wolffsohn, who will explore the different approaches available to manage dry eye – and how management strategies may be adjusted based on a further understanding of mitigating factors and measurements collected from patients. A Q&A session will follow.
Professor Jones said: “One surprising fact is that 20 to 25 per cent of patients that optometrists see suffer from dry eye. My top tip for any practitioner when they’re thinking about dry eye is don’t be scared by it. Many patients have dry eyes, and management is not that complicated. The use of education is one of the simplest and most impactful interventions.
