Registration is now open for the British Contact Lens Association’s (BCLA) hybrid conference, BCLA Focus (11-12 June), as well as for those who’d like to support its Love Your Lenses Week (13-19 June). BCLA Focus will take place at the Vox, Birmingham, and will be live-streamed online. Keynote speakers include Drs Nicole Carnt, Deborah Jones and Shehzad Naroo, and Professors James Wolffsohn, Lyndon Jones and Phil Morgan. Independents Day

Three new speakers have joined the programme for Independents Day, happening on Monday 4 July at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham. Independent Scottish optometrist and business consultant, Craig McArthur, will discuss ‘Charging for myopia management’, sharing his successful pricing model and margin analysis calculations. In ‘Myopia my way’, Sarah Farrant and Indie Grewal will discuss their learnings and practice management pearls. All three join previously announced keynote speakers, Gary Gerber and Matt Oerding from Treehouse Eyes in the USA, and UK practitioners Nick Dash and Sarah Morgan.

Optical illusions in art installations and architecture has inspired the new Purist rimless eyewear collection from Silhouette. When viewed from above, the concave and convex surfaces of the frame work in harmony to capture the minimalist creative influence within the collection. The frames combines high-tech materials and techniques, such as an integrated, maintenance-free snap hinge.

To create a choice between the matte or translucent finish, Silhouette has utilised its SPX+ material – an extremely stable and ultra-lightweight material. The titanium used around the sides can be adjusted to fit the wearer by creating sculpted flex zones. There’s a choice between bold colours such as Vigorous Berry and Courageous White to make a statement, or more subtle colours.

The collection features butterfly shaped lenses for women and hexagonal lenses for men, which can be custom-made and fitted at Silhouette’s in-house lens lab with lenses from Silhouette Vision Sensation.

Hoya Lens UK and Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK) have created a preferred partnership to supply the Lenstar Myopia by Hoya to eyecare practitioners. The Lenstar Myopia by Hoya is based on the proven technology of the Lenstar 900 optical biometer and On a mission to the corresponding curb myopia EyeSuite myopia management software platform, which informs and educates patients and parents about myopia and its progression. The aim of the alliance is to create a “strong one-two approach to diagnose and manage myopia” – by combining the product’s use with Hoya’s Miyosmart spectacle lens, clinically proven to slow down myopia progression on average by 60 per cent in children aged eight to 13. Andy Sanders, Hoya Lens UK professional services director, said: “Hoya is on a mission to curb global myopia and, in order to support eyecare professionals in the effective management of this condition, it makes perfect sense to partner with gold standard equipment supplier Haag-Streit UK. This agreement creates preferred partner status between the two companies to provide diagnostics and treatment for myopia to as many ECPs as possible in the UK and Ireland, as myopia continues to rise.”
