QU’EST-CE QUE CE CONCOURS? Il s’agit d’une compétition dont l’idée principale est de créer de nouvelles structures contemporaines avec des contraintes traditionnelles. La Sukkah est une petite structure, une petite maisonnette que les juifs construisent traditionnellement dans leur jardin durant le festival de Sukkoh. Durant une semaine, la famille s’y réunit pour différents types d’activités. Dans un premier temps, les organisateurs donnent les règles, ce qui peut être fait ou non, ce qui est permis ou prohibé. Comme on peut le voir sur le poster. Puis, à chacun de les réinterpréter à sa façon. Le jury sélectionne 12 projets qui seront construits par les équipes elles-mêmes, à Union Square, NYC. Ces 12 structures seront exposées durant quelques jours et l’une d’entre elles sera sélectionnée par le New-Yorker pour y réaliser la promotion du journal.

But it can be made of almost anything that grows.

A sukkah may be built on a wagon.
A sukkah may be built on a camel.
A sukkah may be built on a boat.
The third wall doesn't need to be complete.
When the 2 complete walls face each other, and an incomplete wall greater than 4 handbreadths is perpendicular, it must be within 3 handbreadths’ distance from one of the complete walls.
A SUKKAH MAY BE BUILT ON TOP OF A SUKKAH: The sukkah above is kosher and the sukkah below isn’t if the sukkah above meets all the parameters of a normal sukkah and the sukkah below can physically support the floor of the sukkah above; the sukkah below is kosher if the sukkah above isn’t kosher and the sukkah below meets the parameters of a normal sukkah, or both sukkahs meet all restrictions, but the sukkah below cannot physically support the floor of the sukkah above.
When the 2 complete walls form a corner, and an incomplete wall of least one handbreadth is perpendicular to one of the complete walls, it must be within 3 handbreadth’s distance from one of the complete walls.
The roof must be made from something that once grew in the ground, and is no longer attached to the earth.

COMMENT ON S’Y EST PRIS? Il faut savoir que dans le même temps, nous avons développé un autre concours, celui de l’Asociación Sostenibilidad y Arquitectura. Le thème de ce concours étant la conception d’un artefact mobile pour un quartier barcelonais, (voir vol.6 pour plus de détails), nous avons décidé d’explorer la même voie pour le concours de Sukkah City. Dans un premier temps, ayant du temps à consacrer à ces concours, j’ai réalisé une première analyse de la demande, des possibilités, du site, des nécessités. Ceci pour pouvoir avancer plus rapidement dans le projet par la suite, en ayant toutes les données. Donc tout d’abord l’analyse que j’ai réalisé puis je détaillerai le rendu du concours.

ET MAINTENANT? Après avoir analysé Union Square, j’ai donc développé un premier concept, une stratégie d’occupation de la place. Il s’agit donc maintenant de prendre des décisions, de voir si cette idée peut être développée ou s’il serai préférable de rebondir vers une autre stratégie. Puis dans un second temps, il faut se concentrer sur le design, la conception de l’artefact. Nous nous sommes donc réunies et j’ai présenté les premières pistes. Nous avons décidé de continuer sur cette voie, j’ai donc commencé une recherche de références pour le design de l’artefact.

EN CONCLUSION
Nous avons eu à réaliser rapidement ce concours. Et je dois dire que le design du meuble aurait peut-être mérité un plus grand travail de recherche. Mais le point intéressant c’est que nous avons pu collaborer de façon très simple pour le rendu. En effet, les rôles ont été répartis ce qui nous a permis d’être productives. Avec Lucia, nous avons réalisé les images de rendu à 4 mains, chacune s’occupant d’une partie de chaque image. J’ai vraiment apprécié pouvoir travailler de façon aussi simple avec elles; même si je me dis que cette situation était peut-être exceptionnelle pour elles et qu’elles ont permis que les choses soient simple, mais cela restait très agréable.
