2016 - 2020

Hello! I’m a fresher Architect, interested in exploring architecture through various dimensions. My fascination with Architecture goes beyond basics, to the finer details that help create an experience for the users. I wanted to be in this industry since I was a 13-year-old. Now looking back, I see Architecture has inspired and changed me in so many ways that I could ever imagine. It gives me some kind-off mystic satisfaction. I always believe that learning should be a never-ending process especially in our field, where there is a blend of art and engineering. I’m looking for an opportunity to work as a part of an ambitious design team where I could contribute my ideas or skills, and also gain new experiences while I’m at it.

Childhood is an age where human brain can absorb knowledge more quickly. So, It is easier to shape them. They can Discover themselves mentally, physically, spiritually and Psychologically. But our education system focuses on exams and marks rather than the growth of children. I can’t change that! But what I did in my design is made that process of learning more interesting and fun for children. Plus, the school can help them discover their skill sets and enhance them. So the students would have a clear picture of what they have to achieve in the future. The school can make them ready for any situation in the world from simple home science to self defense or survival rules. Because architecture can facilitate the transmission of cultural values, we need to look at what our present school buildings are saying to our children. SO WHY VIDYA NIKETAN / DOMBIVLI? Kalyan Dombivli is also considered as one of the fastest developing node after Navi Mumbai. It has been proposed for development as a smart city. As of 2011 India census, Kalyan Dombivli has an average literacy rate of 98.06 higher than the national average of 74.04. The one thing lacking is infrastructure for e g the schools are designed and used in old tradition ways (teacher centered learning) with no modern techniques of teaching. As the times are changing dombivli needs to cope up with the rest of the world.

STRENGTH

WEAKNESS

■ The site is mostly surrounded by greenery only few residential buildings are built around. ■ It is away from the main roads and traffic so the surroundings are very quiet and pleasant for the children to study. ■ The area is enough to fulfill the requirements of facilities to be provided for the children. ■ The site has one bore-well from which the water requirement of the whole school is fulfilled with the rain water harvested water i e the site in self sustained in case of water

■ The site is not much contoured, so there is no scope of playing with natural levels on the site. ■ As the site is away from the city, many snakes are seen in and around the site Even if the snakes are not poisonous, it scares the children. ■ The site has a very irregular shape. ■ There is a shortage of water supply and electricity in this area.

In a Traditional Classroom with a linear Traditional seating, the corner students have a hard time getting a good visual of the board.

CONCEPT

Plus, there is not much surface or angle for light and wind to enter..

CLASSROOM ORIENTATION :

In an octagonal shaped classroom all the students have a proper visual angle to the board.

And you get more surface and angle for light and wind to enter the classrooms

SO WHY NOT HEXAGONAL CLASSROOMS ?

Rectangle rooms Octagon gives you Whereas Hexagonal gives you only linear options in orientation rooms gives you very orientation. i.e. linear and zig zag. flexible orientation.

The site had a lot of old and important trees all around the site which can’t be cut. Hence to retain all of them. I tried to build my school around them. Creating visually pleasing courtyards and good ventilation. In a hexagonal classroom, negative spaces are created because their are no perpendicular walls to the board. Also, less surface area for light and wind to enter.

■ In order to make my design flexible I have designed this desk.• ■ The seating can be arranged in 4 different ways as per the activity being held in the classroom, for e g a lecture, a debate or a group assignment. ■ In a group assignments these desks can be arranged in an octagonal shape with 8 seatings

CONCEPT ■ The main building is oriented in such a way that the open facade of digrid is facing the north direction, ignoring the harsh sunlight from the north. ■ All the buildings are getting maximum amount of air ventilation from the southwest winds. ■ The main building is at the front of the main road. Making it an iconic building. DIAGRID COLUMNS ■ A transport building, when we visualize it mostly is an iconic structure, which can be a land mark, capturing attention of the passer by, and the commuters using it. ■ The advantages of the diagrid in the construction of the structure majorly improves the aesthetic view of the building. ■ It allows generous amount of light inside the structure. ■ These structures have majorly column free exterior and interior, free and clear, unique floor plans can be implemented.

Way to the escalator from the Bus stops.

To ease the connectivity between the Bus station and the Proposed metro station. Bus station -> escalator -> decks -> sky walk -> Metro station.

Meeting point.

The front nodal side space of the site can be used as a land mark space or a meeting point as the site is a transport node with abstract form gaining attention of all. It has gazebos and seating for waiting and beautiful fountains for front visual effect.

Waiting Area with eateries and central column.

A central column radiates the beams for the digrid columns and rest of the structure. The building has a separate smoking area as not to create nuisance for the non smoker public.

Shops at the Ground floor waiting area.

There are various shops, eateries in the main structure near to the bus bay which gives the commuters easy access to the daily necessities. A person can have a bite to eat while waiting for the bus in the waiting area.

Pick - up point and decks

Auto-Rickshaw, Ola, Uber, and Taxi can enter from ACC cement road to the pickup point. At the pickup point, there is an external facing cascade wall, for aesthetic purpose.

Pedestrian and Pick-up entry

There is a Pedestrian Entry Beside pick up entry which is exactly in front of pedestrian entry/exit of the parking building. The three decks have tree shaped columns to give more clear space to the ground and of course for aesthetic purposes.

Proposed Bus - Station at Mulund Check Naka - SEMESTER - 09

CIRCULAR FORM ■ There is some Nifty natural science that makes round buildings more comfortable, more energy efficient and safe. ■ It means less cost and less surface area in contact with adverse weather conditions, which improves the over all durability and energy efficiency. ■ Plus, acoustic of round spaces can be out of this world.

■ The first floor has a big market area, where vendors between hawkers and shop holders which doesn’t have enough money to buy a proper shop sell goods that are in cheaper price like vegetables, watches, cosmetics, fruits, decorative materials, electronics, accessary, clothing, foot wear, stationary etc. ■ They can rent a stall in this place by applying to the market manager whose cabin is also on the first floor. ■ These stall renters can lock their extra materials which was not sold that day of the day in the storage. ■ A woman going home from work needs some vegetables for the dinner she can simply buy them on the site after getting down the bus. ■ The second floor is used as a food court with a small open bar, this was because, as the big screen in the food court would have different shows, like IPL, premier shows, important news announcements etc. ■ So, the public would like it more with a decent bar, as majority of the people would enjoy the show that way. ■ The screen is visible to the amphitheatre and the front metro line. Hence, they can have a view of the news or importance annoucements goining around while being in the neighbourhood.

■ At the existing moment on the site there are 1 room kitchen BMC staff quaters for nearly 80 tenants. ■ As these where very old structures and also affecting the site facade, redeveloping and relocating the staff quaters is the best solution seen. ■ As when redeveloping a housing should have at least 25% of the carpet area more than the existing, the new staff quaters has 1 BHK area available at minimal. These are 3 G+7 buildings with 4 tenants on each floor. i.e., we get 84 tenants in total.

Luxury housing is emerging as one of the most vibrant and dynamic real estate segments in India. The growing demand for luxury housing can be attributed to a rise in the number of high-end individuals, the influx of global lifestyle trends, and growing aspirations of people. The country’s fast-expanding services sector is propelling many middle-income group individuals into the higher-middle end bracket. Hence, I’ve tried to design a home for the middle class with a taste of luxury. I’m not mixing lower class typology with the higher middle-class people, as after the higher-class crowd mostly don’t want to mingle around the lowerclass people.

Due to urbanization we experience people migrate to cities for better higher education that our country offers. With this, facility for a stay at an affordable price arises. Hence this Architectural design project revolves around providing a provision for a hostel in Kharghar for a capacity of 400 students. This hostel not only serve as a place to reside in, but it plays a vital role in the personality development of students while living an independent life away from their guardians. It’s environment also gives an opportunity to socialize among other students and help students move ahead in life.

STRENGTH

WEAKNESS

■ Site is in Kharghar which is an educational hub. ■ The site is close to the station. ■ The site is well connected by the transport systems like bus, auto and sky-walks Kharghar has many places to spend time necessary daily things are easily available in the neighbourhood ■ There is less traffic in the roads close or connected by the site.

■ The surrounding buildings of the site are all high risers. Which blocks the view as well as wind flow? ■ There are many temporary structures close to the site (zhopadis and thelas). ■ There are less trees in the surroundings of site, which does not give any shade on site and heat increases

■ The building orientation Is according to the sun path and wind direction. ■ “There are almost no windows on the east and west side of the hostel, which will lessen the heat.” ■ Plus, the wind flows from Southwest direction and flows inside the Structure through jali work which results in good ventilation. ■ Very often a Jali wall is a better substitute for a glass window. It lets general subdued light. It also deals with ventilation but prevents driving rain from entering. ■ There are two main blocks of hostel i.e., girl’s and boy’s hostel. The between recreational block is for the users of different culture traditions or interest to come together and develops their personality. ■ Girl’s hostel is at the end of the site so the boys are not allowed to enter that space after a particular limit.

FINAL MODEL

■ “The outsiders are restricted at the gate itself. If they want to meet their friends, they can do that on the dabha on the entrance of the site.” ■ Only parents or guardians are allowed in the hostel. Guest rooms are also provided in case they want to spend the night.

■ BALCONY - The parapets of all the balconies have plantations on it which will cool the rooms and also help in enhancing the facade. Plus, every alternate balcony has a jali work acting as a shade and that also gives the facade a different look. ■ CONNECTING BRIDGE - A bridge is made connecting the two hostels on either side to the central recreational block. These bridge connections are at alternate floors. The users don’t need to climb down completely from the hostel blocks to go to the middle building. ■ STAIRCASE - The circular staircase is for the access of the middle recreational block. It rotates around it. It is open from one side which serves a good effect when seen from outside the building. ■ THE LIBRARY AND THE INTERNET CAFE - Library, is essential for the students for studying and even making some research for their assignments. Along with it an Internet cafe is provided with Wi-Fi facility, as nowadays it has become a daily necessity. ■ MULTIPURPOSE HALL - The middle multipurpose hall on the second floor can have multiple events as the students wish to organize There can be an exhibition, workshop, annual day event, parties, birthdays and lots more The separation of spaces can be done by temporary partition wall, which will create various permutations and combinations of the areas. ■ GYMNASIUM / YOGA CENTRE - Today’s youngsters prefer to stay fit and healthy. They do daily gym to achieve this. Yoga also helps in doing so. A gym and a yoga centre just in their hostel campus can help their life much easier. ■ INDOOR SPORTS CENTRE - After a long and tiring day at college, the students can finally have some fun. Indoor sports can be played by them for entertainment It has a pool table, box football, chess carrom and many more.

INTRODUCTION : Taking the medicine logo as the basic concept, i further worked with hexagon. Honeycomb is the perfect analogy for a “natural” architecture.

31

Honeycomb encloses space for a purpose and is made by industrious bees that like flowers. Honeycomb is more than just a plan Hexagons are either way of rebelling against the tyranny of rectilinear geometry or of wanting to be seen as rebelling against the tyranny of rectilinear geometry.

DETAILS

INTRODUCTION

GROUP MEMBERS : Viranchi Sinha, Michelle Vas JUhili Sawant SITE AREA : 21,830 m2 OBJECTIVE : Enhancing Heritage site around Bandra fort. LOCATION : Bandra fort, Byramji jeejeebhoy Road, Bandstand Road, Mumbai.

Aguada fort was built by the Portuguese in 1640, and was meant to be a watch tower overlooking mahim bay, the Arabian sea and the island of mahim. The fort has ‘Aguada’ in its name, which translates to a ‘fountain’ that originated from a freshwater spring in those times. During the Portuguese rule, the fort was armed with seven cannons and other smaller guns for defence purposes. By developing the area outside the fort, a lot of facilities can be provided which will make the area outside the fort useful and beautiful. Portuguese landscape is used as a theme for the development plan. Different elements of Portuguese gardens are utiized. By doing the swot analysis, various conclusions are being thought of in terms of planning. ■ The entrance of the site leads to such a landscape which admires the beauty of Portuguese gardens. ■ Jogging tracks are provided on the periphery of the landscape design, which is majorly for the people living in the surrounding area which connects them with the sea. People jogging around at bandstand can utilize the jogging tracks in the site and can enjoy the beautiful view from the viewing deck. Others can exercise at fitness stations. ■ A performing centre outside the heritage structure will promote healthy gatherings and people who come for heritage walks can have their gatherings. ■ As it is a flood prone area, promenades at two levels are provided. (one available for nine months and other throughout the 12 months). ■ The existing amphitheatre can be enhanced and used for different activities. ■ Shades are provided in one end of the site for the people visiting in the afternoon time. ■ A musical fountain at the centre of the site will allow all the people to enjoy it. ■ A double level garden restaurant is provided for people to have eateries on both the levels of the promenade. ■ A lot of seating spaces are provided throughout the site keeping all the age groups in mind.

DOUBLE PROMENADE The site is prone to floods and therefore two promenades are provided at 2 different levels. Therefore 1 promenade is available for 9 months and the Other throughout the 12 months the jogging track provided at the periphery Of the site connects to the promenade
