SOCIAL HOUSING The intervention, located in a compressed soil flap between two high-slope roads, reveals its complexity in relation to its urban context and the particular features of its lot, that measuring 24m in width and 400 in length. The strategy adopted was: firstly, to restrict as much as possible the intervention in order to place a band of public space that acts as a filter between dwellings and roads, and secondly, relying on the very old technique of court houses, recreating internal semi-public spaces in which social relationships can develop, we think for example to those among the children or elderly. The research also seeks to deepen the issues of environmental comfort in the broad sense and multiethnicity of today’s cities. Theme, this last, which led me, by virtue of the analyses conducted, to hypothesize the possible housing solutions able to satisfy a large part of the housing traditions of different cultures.

Giancarlo De Carlo “The reasons for architecture” "[...] prepare for the fact that there will soon be only multiethnic cities and therefore the House must guarantee you a quick omelette, but also the possibility of cooking a kebab, couscous, or vermicelli. It is necessary to create the premise for an “extrovert” way of living, the definition of accommodation must become much more flexible and much more adaptable"

POLIFUNCIONAL CAN CERVERA The intervention is located in an URBAN RESIDUAL on the outskirts of Barcelona. The objective and the challenge, were to develope the area of intervention, highly degraded and subject to self-regulation, trying to provide a new reading of the spaces, hypothesize a new function, preferably of cohesion. The objective was to be achieved through the insertion in the area of a single architectural intervention, able to be the heart of the whole area, and consequently regenerate the surroundings. The proposal is based on a long social-anthropological analysis of the place in question, of which vocations and needs are identified. The intervention program is in fact in continuity with what had been the function attributed to the area by the same citizens who have self-regulated and lived there to this day. It is thus thought of as a multifunctional aggregation site, and specifically: urban gardens and spaces related to rural didactics, neighbourhood producer market, and spaces for cultural diffusion and site memory.

LIBRARY OF ARTS The program foresees the realization of a library of the arts at the University of Rome Tre on the area of ex-refrigerators of the ex-slaughterhouse of Testaccio, to follow the development program of the surrounding area. The compositional idea stems from the need to set itself as urban centrality and consequently from the relationship with what will be the fulcrum of the pedestrian flows of the area, Piazza Giustiniani. The new building in the area with its prominent presence, will attract visitors along a promenade full of prospective views, until the heart of the “Covered Square” inside. The outer space dissolves imperceptibly to the latter. The same morphology allows us to partition and make independent, to the need, the various parts and functions of the building. Particular attention has been paid to the environmental comfort (acoustic, lighting and Thermo-hygrometric), for which, for example, it is proposed the experimental use of water containers (high thermal inertia) in the South-west wall or the poetic “jealousy” on the southern façade of the book Storage (constitutive reinterpretation of adjacent Monte dei cocci).

ZHANG DA QIAN MUSEUM Zhang Daqian was one of the best-known and most prodigious Chinese artists of the 20th century. On April 2010, Excellence Group invited EMBT to design Zhang Daqian’s museum in Neijang city, the painter’s hometown. In 1956 Zhang Daqian and Pablo Picasso met in Paris, where they exchanged ideas on art and initiated their friendship. Neijiang city would like to continue this friendship between the two artists, and moreover between the two cities where they were born, Neijing and Malaga. The design philosophy behind the museum was to integrate the cultural essence of East and West and build expressing the past and the future. The site is located at the peak of Dong Tong Lu, Yuan Mountain, west of Xi Lin monastery, south of the Tuo River. The museum, which aims to become the new landmark of the city, should grow from the existing tea house and extend its pavilions over and around a garden that moves topographically on different levels, enclosing some of the old trees within its scheme. The motives and gestures extracted from Zhang Daqian’s painting will shape the ribs of the vertical structure, while the interpretation that the Chinese painter did of Picasso’s face will inform the geometries of the plan. My work on this project is recognizable in the design of the pavilions and the architectural ‘promenade’.

THE MUSEUM MACHINE

A MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY MUSEUM The vocation of the proposal is to equip the community of a container that can adequately host events and works of art, in their typological / dimensional variety, part of the museum’s collection and at the same time not integral to it. Particular attention has been paid to the design of the environmental comfort of outdoor spaces. Through strategies and technologies to modify the microclimate, it guarantees a more comfortable and inviting experience. From a perceptive point of view, the outer and inner spaces are protagonists of a dance that sees them alternate in a continuous visual interlacing, sometimes such as to break down the sensory boundaries that mark the differences. Strategically primary is the focus on the choice of constructive materials and techniques. An architecture in harmony with the territory, the climate, the plots of the landscape.

A vital museum does not offer only quality exhibition paths but also relationships spaces, comfortable environments to reflect and imagine, occasions of stimulus and curiosity.

The province of Trapani, with about 67,000 hectares of land planted with vineyards, has the largest area planted with vines for single province of Italy, 46.9% compared to the Sicilian total and 8.7% compared to the Italian total. Resulted is a production of 4-5 million annual hectolitres of wine.

Today, as a result of the fact that the harvesting of grapes, thanks to the advance of the technology, is not nearly more harvest by hand but with special machines, the vineyards must be technically adapted. The old concrete support poles must be replaced with others in wood or aluminium and consequently, due to the cost of disposal, the campaigns are invaded.

CULTIVATING THE FUTURE

A SQUARE FOR THE GROWTH OF THE BELICE The project starts from the idea of being able to re-inhabit Gibellina Nuova, finding in it current potential for the sringboard for a rebirth. By means of a phase of listening and involvement of the population, an important territorial vocation was thus identifed for a hypothesis of local development, that is to say, the promotion of a quality agri-food supply chain. The project is also translated into the redesigning of the interior of the unfinished Theatre of Pietro Consagra, and in the realization of an urban agricultural park, at the service of the ‘Territorial Workshop,’ an innovative structure for learning.

through small demolitions, we get the new spatiality

Pietro Consagra’s Teatro di Gibellina is an unfinished structure. Designed by the sculptor in 1972, and although some additions have been added in the course of its construction that partially modified the original idea, the theater reflects the conception of the Frontal City theorized by the artist in 1968. “Any space will happen to us from having to use must be mobile, provisional, transparent, paradoxical, elusive to the eternal structures of Power, available to the mutability of choices.“

10 SQM Our project describes cultural contamination, traditions, and Sea. Mazara del Vallo, a city of sea and fishermen, is a meeting place of the different cultures of the Mediterranean, a tangible sign is the Casbah. And just the Arabian domes and the sea urchin skeleton inspired the research of both form and structural logic. Designed to be an easily recognizable element able to characterize the surrounding as a totem, it has the ability to illuminate itself/illuminate like a lantern. Modular object able to respond flexibly to different usage needs, can be easily assembled and dismantled in a short time by few people and transportable both assembled and dismantled without the use of third-party tools. Environmental comfort has been pursued with eyes aimed at sustainability and reuse. In a place where heat is the biggest climatic problem, we have worked on three concepts: high thermal inertia, shading and natural ventilation.

HOUSING DESIGN

RENOVATIONS AND INTERIOR DESIGN With the aim of satisfying the needs of the clients, my work tries to optimize spatiality and usability of the environments. Fluid and luminous environments whose distribution is well marked for functions, and in particular those in the sleeping area, living area or professional activities. Curated in the material details of finishing, I think that tact is an important way in exploring a space. Particular attention is also paid to technical details, energy efficiency and environmental comfort.
