Kemptville Winter Woodlot Conference as we get ‘Back to Basics’ When: Friday, February 22, 2019 8:00am to 4:00pm Where: North Grenville Municipal Complex 285 County Rd 44, Kemptville Registration, Coffee & Exhibits from 8:00am to 9:00am Keynote Address How to Increase the Resiliency of Your Woodlot in the Face of Climate Change AND Close Encounters of the Third Kind! ~ Dr. Christian Messier, Professor of Forest Ecology and Urban Forestry & Scientific Director at ISFORT at the University of Quebec ~ Climate change is now part of our daily lives: heat waves, droughts, ice storms, climatic fluctuations. These climatic disturbances greatly affect our forests. But, they may not be the biggest threat; increasingly our forests are facing ‘close encounters of the third kind’ -- insects and diseases from Europe and Asia, which weaken and kill them. Together, these global changes will strongly influence the composition, structure and health of our forests over the next 100 years. What are the prospects for our forests in the face of these global changes? What can we do now to help our forests adapt to these changes? Can forestry play a positive role in this adaptation? Dr. Messier will address these questions and offer reflections on effective and realistic solutions to increase the resiliency of our forests.

Registration in advance is required by February 15, 2019. The registration fee is $35 and includes refreshments and lunch.
