Charity LEJOG cycling challenge: in aid of MNDA

Charity Cycling Challenge for Sussex Rider

Sussex cyclist Mark Slawinski of Barns Green will be taking on a solo LEJOG (Land’s End to John O’Groats) bike challenge this August.

The ride is an attempt to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a cause close to Mark’s heart.

As a keen rider of all types of bikes, Mark has had this goal in his sights for a while. It’s a challenging pedal from one end of the country to the other, and the chosen route takes in the majority of the west coast of the UK.

This will be a meaningful trip in many ways, not least because Mark’s Grandma Anne, a nurse and avid cyclist, sadly lost her life to Motor Neurone Disease in the 1970s before Mark was born. At the time there was relatively little awareness of the disease and its effects – she was misdiagnosed twice – and Mark’s Grandfather Tom, also a nurse, provided the complex care required.

There is now greater clarity and much research into MND taking place, in order to give hope, support and precious time to sufferers. Every penny raised by Mark will contribute directly to this. Mark is attempting to do his LEJOG in 14 days without any assistance, although he admits it may involve a lot of cake!
