Santa Says “Thank You”

Santa has asked Billingshurst & District Lions to say, “Thank You” to everyone who came out to say, “Hello” as he toured Billingshurst and the villages again this year. Santa, and Mrs Claus, were especially delighted to see all the children, many joining in a photograph.

Santa also says, “Thank You”; for all the generous donations, which went towards 88 Christmas Hampers for families throughout the Billingshurst District; to the volunteer Elves who turned out on bitterly cold evenings and to PD Motors; Station Garage at Broadbridge Heath; Mansell McTaggart; DG Clifton & Son and itrackdirect, who make it all possible.

With many new roads to cover, Santa starts his travels a little earlier these days and he says sorry to those he did not meet, but hopes that they were all happy with their presents on Christmas Day.

Melvyn Jones Award

The Melvyn Jones Award, named in memory of the Lions Founder, is awarded for outstanding service throughout the Lion movement. President Michael Snell, recently had the pleasure of presenting this award to Viv Diggens for his dedication and achievements as a Lion, in particular his instigation and promotion of the ROAR Project, initially at Billingshurst Primary School, but now adopted with enthusiasm by Primary Schools across the UK.

Viv joined the Lions in 2001, after a member of his staff at the time, who was a Lion, suggested he should join, as it was so rewarding. Also, his children enjoyed seeing Santa at Christmas.

Viv says, “I quickly came to realise that being a Lion gave me an opportunity to give something back to the community, meet new challenges, whilst making new friendships that come from it.”
