Renegades resist a rest!

The Renegades Youth Club has gone undercover(s) with its first post pandemic sleepover… although, truth be told, it was more like an absolutelynosleepwhatsoever-over!

The club, now based at Loxwood North Hall, was able to celebrate the end of term and the start of Christmas with a film night and pyjama party rolled into one.

“We did our latest sleepover film night at Loxwood, and it was a blast!,” laughs Group Leader Gareth Miller. “The children may have finally gone to sleep in the early hours, but it was a different story for the poor Leaders and helpers!

“Loxwood Village Hall lent us their fantastic giant screen and projector, which we made full use of with the club’s Xbox, and we showed a heart-warming film that appealed to all ages – Second Hand Lions

“We also went full Italian with everyone mucking in to make a Roman spaghetti carbonara with egg yolks, parmigiana, thyme and pancetta and a spaghetti puttanesca for the vegetarians, which the Renegades made from scratch with tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, capers and basil – and our own garlic bread of course. Next time we are going Mexican…

“The ingenuity of the children just made us laugh so much… it’s amazing how far a child in a sleeping bag can slide across a shiny floor!”

As the New Year settles in, the Renegades have more film nights planned and our first canoeing camping trip as well for the young members. Other extremely adventurous activities are in the pipeline are planned for 2023 –including some parent and adult activities too – so watch this space. “One sneak preview is that we are going to start Larp (Live Action Role Play)

Archery, also known as Battle or Combat archery. It’s a new way to enjoy archery using specifically designed safety arrows and face masks… think Dodgeball with bows!”

In these cash-strapped times and in keeping with the Renegades’ principle of offering more for less, the management team has agreed to suspend membership payments (usually £10 a month to include all regular activities) until the end of February, and we are offering discounts for multiple family memberships.

The Renegades is a Registered Charity. Membership costs £10 a month. Please contact Gareth Miller on 07801 862550 or Damian Dixon on 07484 130189 for further information.
