VILLAGE OF PROMISE

OUR WHY

1 in 6

Children in America live in poverty-making them the poorest age group in the country.

30 Million Words

-nccp.org

By age 3, there is a 30 million word gap between children from the wealthiest and poorest families. -naecy.org

$700 Billion Per Year Lost productivity, worsened health and increased crime stemming from child poverty cost the nation about $700 billion dollars a year, or about 3.5 percent of GDP. McLaughlin, Michael and Mark Rank. 2018. “Estimating the Economic Cost of Childhood Poverty in the United States.” Social Work Research 42(2): 73

Eliminating these inequities requires early intervention. At Village of Promise, our focus on Cognitive, Language, Physical, and Social-Emotional Development allows scholars in poverty to begin school on a level playing field with children from higher socioeconomic backgrounds. Simultaneously, we empower our adults through education and resource connection, providing a future filled with hope and dignity.

EVENTS 2020

VIRTUAL FUNDRAISER AUGUST

While Torch would normally have hosted their annual golf tournament, in consideration of the current COVID-19 pandemic and safety concerns, they hosted a virtual fundraiser for Village of Promise instead! Thanks to the combined generosity of our previous golf tournament sponsors, Torch's employee-owners, retirees, and Board of Directors, as well as the employee-owners and Board of Directors of their sister and parent companies Freedom Real Estate & Capital, LLC and Starfish Holdings, Torch was able to raise $100,000 for Village of Promise! They believe in giving back to the communities their employee-owners call home, and we are so grateful to the sponsors and employee-owners for their generosity. Thank you to everyone who contributed and made this fundraiser such a success in an otherwise challenging time.

EVENTS 2020

ONE TABLE NOVEMBER 23

One Table is a city-wide Thanksgiving meal held in the heart of Huntsville. Through One Table, we are dedicated to removing barriers and bringing our community together as ONE. Gather as strangers, eat as a family . Since we were unable to collectively gather together this year due to COVID, we provided to-go Thanksgiving meals available for curbside pickup at two locations: We served over 2,500 meals, over 1,200 to the Northwoods Community alone.
