Sunbury’s Fabulous Gardens By Monica Chard, Editor The village was positively buzzing on Sunday June 2nd. The village was full of people visiting Sunbury Open Gardens. Young spritely gymnasts from Spelthorne Gymnastics visited the shops to stock up on calories, much needed after the exertions of their routines at Monksbridge. Roses bloomed, classic cars gleamed, bucks fizz was quaffed and lots of money spent on the various sales at the venues raising much needed funds for charity. We loved Edna Evan’s bike on display at one of the gardens. Well done Edna. What a beautiful display! Sue and George March, who have worked year after year on Open Gardens, along with stalwart Pat Crisp, wrote to garden owners and volunteers; “Thank you everyone for helping out at the Open Gardens. It would be impossible to run the event without your input. The excellent news, apart from the knowledge that so many people had a lovely community day out, was the fact that we made a substantial amount for our charities - £12,600! £12,000 will be divided equally amongst the four named charities and the remainder will go to 'The Impossible Dream' boat for the disabled. Pat, George and I thank you all for your participation” These volunteers have worked tirelessly year after year, so have decided they need to stop. That means the future of the event is in jeopardy. Could you help? It is such a popular day but it needs gardens who are willing to open and volunteers to undertake all the arrangements. It would be such a shame to see it end. Email monica@villagematters.co.uk Local Anita Perrin contacted us to say “Just want to say a big thank you to those who opened their gardens this year for Sunbury open gardens. We had a grand time and only hope the event occurs next year again. As a keen gardener myself I could see how much effort was made” Thanks to Jude Browne for sharing photos
