YOUR GUIDE TO ROME, ITALY

THE ETERNAL CITY sites and monuments, gilded churches filled with paintings by some of the world’s most famous artists, beautifully manicured parks and buzzing family-run cafes and trattorias. As one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe, Rome is a haven for history buffs, art lovers and foodies alike.

TOP THINGS TO SEE & DO

TOSS A COIN IN THE TREVI FOUNTAIN: the fountain features a baroque ensemble of mythical figures and wild horses. It is one of the most famous fountains in the world and has appeared in several films, including Roman Holiday.

THE PANTHEON: best-preserved ancient Roman monuments. It was built by Hadrian over Marcus Agrippa’s earlier 27 BC temple and features the largest unreinforced concrete dome ever built.

ENROL IN A COOKING CLASS: Roman cuisine centres around simple dishes prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients — think peas, artichokes, fava beans, shellfish, lamb, ricotta cheese and handmade pasta.

THE ROMAN FORUM: A rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several ancient government buildings, temples, basilicas and monuments. Historians believe people first began publicly meeting in the open-air forum around 500 BC.

EXPLORE TRASTEVERE: A colourful, bohemian area known for its traditional and innovative trattorias, craft beer pubs and artisan shops. Be sure to stop in Piazza di San Calisto to enjoy an aperitivo with the locals.
