YOUR GUIDE TO JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

ONE OF THE HOLIEST CITIES IN THE WORLD, breathtaking icons of Christianity, Judaism and Islam await you. The city’s history is incredible, having survived thousands of years of political, territorial and ethnic conflict. Even today, ancient artefacts continue to be unearthed in and around the Old City.

TOP THINGS TO SEE & DO

THE WESTERN WALL / WAILING WALL: Located in the Old City, this is a place of prayer and pilgrimage sacred to the Jewish people. It’s all that remains of the Second Temple of Jerusalem, which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE.

YAD VASHEM: This 18-hectare site is Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It features nine underground galleries, including the Hall of Names where photos of those who perished cover the ceiling.

MAHANE YEHUDA MARKET: Here, more than 250 vendors sell fresh produce, nuts, spices and wine, as well as homewares and textiles. You will also find plenty of restaurants and cafes — be sure to have a pomegranate juice, some falafels and hummus.

THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE: Located in the Old City’s Christian Quarter, the church contains — according to traditions dating back to the fourth century — the site where Jesus was crucified and his empty tomb.

THE DOME OF THE ROCK: An Islamic shrine located on the Temple Mount, initially completed in 692 CE. It’s a UNESCO site and its inscriptions contain the earliest epigraphic proclamations of Islam.
