Like a gift from God no one seemed to find Hidden in the tax office, there to grind In those days when my life was in a bind Jesus found me and said, “Leave it behind.” How could I have been for so long so blind? No friend to speak of, I was a tough rind To me (even me!) Jesus was so kind In calling me, He said, “Leave it behind.” At the tax table Jesus changed my mind What joy! A feast! We altogether dined He helped me with all my crimes to rewind Don’t carry sin’s burden, leave it behind In my house that day, O how Jesus shined I, Matthew, tell you, “Leave it all behind.”
