1. Introductions (if new members) (4 min) ‐ Introductions were made for Mr. DiCicco’s (the new Vice Principal) benefit 2. Acceptance of the agenda ‐ 6c. Pat Carrico’s request was added

3. Principal’s Report (10 min) ‐ Mrs. D would like the Principal’s report to consist of a Q&A session whereby questions from the PAC are emailed to her the week prior. Any additional information that should be shared between Admin and PAC will also be communicated. ‐ The Clubs notices have gone out with Knitting, Choir, Badminton, Basketball and Chess all starting up again. If students are having a hard time choosing only one club per day there is the opportunity for them to commit to a couple of months in one club and then switch to the other. ‐ The Secretary and Treasurer asked Mrs. D to please remind teachers about the upcoming deadline to let the PAC know if their fieldtrip money will be spent or not. If a teacher is not going to spend all of their money this year, then it will be retracted by the PAC Treasurer and redistributed on a school wide event. ‐ Feb. 17th is Ready, Set, Learn (for preschoolers considering Vic West Elem for Kindergarten) and the PAC is welcome to host another table in the gym. There was exceptionally poor attendance last year and so Mrs. D will be making an effort to advertise at the community center and larger community. ‐ During the week of Kindergarten registration (Jan. 27‐31st), the school will be hosting an Open House in the Library on Family Literacy Day (Monday, January 27th). The PAC is welcome to attend (possibly with coffee for parents). Shelley is preparing the PAC pamphlet and bookmarks for distribution. Continued...

In the past, community members have been welcomed to volunteer at the school. For example, there was a Joy of Reading Club where a volunteer would host a Storytime for preschoolers once a month in the Library. Mrs. D would like to try to promote these opportunities again. Action item:  Mrs. D will remind staff to let the PAC know via email: vicwestpac@gmail.com whether they will be using their money or not. Mercedes and Carolyn to follow up. 4. Executive Reports a. President’s Report (5 min) ‐ Absent b. Treasurer’s Report‐ see website ‐ Current balances: $4061.04 (cheq), $2835.12 (gaming), $252.04 (earthquake/emerg. fund) (5 min) c. VCPAC Report ‐ None in December 5. Business/Action items arising from previous minutes: (2 min) a. VIPC sign up st ‐ Vancouver Island Parent Conference: Feb 1 www.vipc.ca ‐ Parents are to spread the word about the possibility of attending the conference and then let Mercedes know by the end of the week. Otherwise, Mercedes, Amy and Aaren will be attending. Action item:  Amy to post VIPC info on facebook (5 min) b. Breakfast Program ‐ Lori may need help with serving breakfast in the morning. When she is absent breakfast is not served so it would be good to at least have a backup server. ‐ According to the Guidelines, protein is missing from the meal but yogurt and cheese is very expensive. As it stands now with only bread and jam, the money donated to the program will last the rest of the year. Action item:  PAC to check with Lori and possibly try to recruit a parent volunteer  Executive to talk about approaching potential sponsors of either funds or protein.

c. Walk‐a‐thon (5 min) ‐ Modelling after McCauley’s annual walk‐a thon which raises substantial funds for the school and promotes student involvement and exercise. ‐ Students would follow the Terry Fox run route ‐ Some debate about whether to organize the walk‐a thon this May or next. ‐ Due to the importance of buy in from the Administrators and Staff, it was decided the “Wild and Wacky Walk a thon” would take place in May, 2015 which would allow for it to be added to the school calendar and details to be sorted.  All voted in favour ‐ However, Mrs. D suggested that students would walk on Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22nd) just to get the kids active and thinking about next year. 7. New business a. Movie Night‐ Feb? April? Pick date (2 min) th ‐ Thursday, Feb. 20 is before a Pro‐D Day but the Administrators will be absent. ‐ Friday, Feb. 28th considered but PAC members thought that there would be far fewer in attendance on a Friday night. ‐ After the meeting, Mrs. D confirmed that Mrs. Stead is willing to supervise that evening as a staff member of the school Action item:  Mercedes to confirm with Mrs. D that Feb. 20th will work for us. (5 min) b. Ready Set Learn (Feb 19th) ‐ see Principal’s report c. Pat Carrico’s request ‐ would like to host a Seaquarium event for the whole school ‐ request for PAC gaming funds of around $250  PAC voted unanimously to provide the funds for the event

Next General PAC meeting will be on Wednesday, February 12th from 6:00‐ 8:00pm in the school Library…see you there! 
