Purpose: • To review structures studied last class. Instructions: 1. Work in pairs. 2. Provide at least 2 examples about the topic studied last class. 3. Share your ideas with a partner. 4. Share your ideas with the class.

Purpose: • To share information about what you know about alcohol. Instructions: 1. Work in groups of 3. 2. Talk about different alcoholic beverages. 3. Discuss the origin of these alcoholic beverages. 4. Share your ideas with the class.

Activity # 3: Reading: Kinds of Alcoholic Beverages

Purpose: •To find the main idea of an article. Instructions: 1. Work individually. 2. Read the provided handout about an alcoholic beverage. 3. Prepare ideas to explain what your drink is about in your own words. 4. Tell your partner your ideas without looking back at the text. 5. Share your ideas with the whole class.

Activity # 4: Speaking: Summarizing Purpose: •To find relevant information in an article. Instructions: 1. Work individually. 2. Read the text again. 3. Prepare your ideas to explain what your drink is about including important facts . 4. Share the ideas with the whole class without looking at the text. 5. Analyze the sentences in the following slide. 6. Discuss with a partner if everybody could summarize the text including relevant information.


Structure or guiding questions for activity 4 Write True or False next to each statement based on the ideas your partners have shared.  Gin comes from the alcohol British soldiers drank while fighting in the Low Countries in the 17th century.  Gin became very expensive because medicinal qualities were found.  Tequila got its name because it was made in the village of Mezcal.  Mezcal producers started to include the larva of a moth in the bottles they sold to prove the drink was of a high quality .  Ruou is a Vietnamese drink, popular in urban areas.  Ruou is considered a spiritual drink and thanks are offered to heaven before drinking it.
