PLEASE MENTION ICE CLUB & MAGAZINE WHEN CONTACTING ADVERTISERS. Editorial Thank you to all who voted for me at the AGM. Now I am truly in place. There are many changes to the magazine this month, and things have been moved around. I hope you’ll like the new layout, and you’ll be able to find your favourite pages (and more!). I’ve so enjoyed putting this together. It would be so boring if I didn’t have the write-ups from the poeple who attended the events and the other interesting articles. There isn’t always room for everything that is submitted, but don’t worry, most things will be included eventually. Please continue to send me your input and ideas. Sheila Fox

President’s Letter

Where are the sunny dry days that Southern Spain is renowned for? So much rain and not just down south either. Easter of course is just around the corner which usually means more rain to dampen the many parades that will take place during the week. Please can I remind members NOT to park in the space by the front door. The neighbours get very upset when we do even though officially it's not theirs, but we don't want to be the cause of any nasty incidents. The deliberate turning off of our electrics during Joan's party has been reported to the police, urbanisation office and Endesa, I will keep you informed of updates if any. We are holding a variety of events this month, mostly with food involved so do please support as many as you can. The trip this month is to the horses just outside Jerez. If you haven't been this is the horse show to go to. An informative guide around the stud farm is included and then the chance to see all the lovely foals with their Mums aaaaaahhhhhh!! Don't forget golfers it's Spring cup time, put your name down on the list in the Club or phone Alan Davis. Afterwards the lunch is being held at Venta La Choza, I'm practising the puckering of lips already! Happy Easter to you all. Sue Were you interviewed by Kelly Hall? A few weeks ago some of us were interviewed by Kelly Hall, a Lecturer in Social Policy at Birmingham University who has been doing research into retirement migration for the past decade. She has now published a summary of her findings. It’s too long to reproduce here, but I’ll put a copy on the notice-board so that you can see if others agree with your views. Sally Holloway

The following website may be of interest to the ICE Club members who occasionally need to make 0800 calls to the UK, but of course they are not free from Spain! (Lots of UK Utility Companies give out 0800 numbers) Once your landline is registered, it allows you to make free 0800 numbers to the UK,by following simple instructions. I’ve used it and It works and is entirely free to use. http://www.simpletelecoms.co.uk/calling-UK-08xxx-numbers-from-spain.htm Doug Proctor

PAST EVENTS Saturday 11th March: Joan Thompson’s 80th Birthday Party at the Club Talk about meals on wheels! We arrived to find Stephi over-seeing the delivery of plates full of food and what an assortment there was. Enough to feed an army. There was Joan, the birthday girl, resplendent in a figure hugging little black lace number... WOW! surrounded by her family. Her son, unfortunately, was fog bound in Jersey and didn’t make it. However, her grandsons made up for this, getting more entertaining as the evening went by! As we all collected our drinks and sat down, Mandy & Jerry were setting up the music. Unfortunately, Mandy had laryngitis and couldn’t sing a note, leaving Jerry to entertain us... and boy did he do well! As usual, we went table by table upstairs to collect our food. We found it very difficult to choose as there was such a terrific selection. Having demolished the food, the party began. Joan had also arranged for Stelvis to entertain us later in the evening but after only a few songs, the electricity to the whole building went off. That’s when the fun started! While Nigel & friends were trying to fix the problem, many of the men appeared holding a bottle with a candle in looking like Wee Willy Winkie, ready for bed! Undeterred, the birthday cake was cut and distributed in the dark and very nice it was too. Nigel and friends finally discovered the problem and normality was restored. Well done Nigel. Stelvis resumed and had everyone on the dance floor for the rest of the night. Many thanks to Joan for inviting us to her party. It was a very enjoyable evening. Margaret Loughran Friday March 17th - St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations The annual St Patricks night at the Clubhouse went with a swing this year as we were treated to a display of Irish dancing to get the evening off to a good start. Then Martin Monaghan in great form singing and guitar playing, Cindy and Martin Holmes were also there to entertain us and a guest Brian had also brought along his guitar. Terry Byrne gave a tribute to Christie Brown who was always singing with us and a great character who is sadly missed. Bonnie his wife sang beautifully to him his favourite song "The fields of Athenry "and Terry as usual sang several old favourites. More songs and jokes followed one another. A surprise to me Martin M. had been practising and sang my favourite Vincent sounding better than Don McLean, Thank you Martin it was lovely. No one wanted you to go home but the evening ended with loud applause and sincere thanks to Mac and Jackie and Ken for manning the bar and serving the Guinness.

PAST EVENTS Doug's Mystery Trip???? Wednesday 22nd February So where is the destination going to be this time - and what can we expect when we get there???!!! This time we were given a few clues: 1. First pickup point Eroski then travel east for other pickups (although once again he could have turned back!). 2. We had been warned to take warm clothing as it may be colder (sounds like a trip into the hills). 3. We did not head back west after last pickup so thoughts were somewhere near Ronda and we were found correct once we took the road inland from San Pedro and the further we went, after a dull start on the coast, the weather improved and the sun greeted us. So after the scenic drive up the winding hills towards Ronda we had our first stop for coffee and comfort that just happened to be next door to a shop selling leather goods to some members interest and uncontrolled spending habits! While ordering coffee many members succumbed to the waiter’s temptation of a piece of cake to go with it. Well when it was served the piece was so large, enough to feed 4 people! But very nice it was. So off we go again knowing we will not be stopping in Ronda as there is a forthcoming trip arranged by train. So the guessing game restarted, could it be Benaoján with its Popular Molino del Santo Hotel? No, we passed that road junction. How about Sentinel with its famous cave houses and bars, or even the village of Zahara overlooking the lake? But no to these as we turned off the A374 onto the even more winding A372 towards the attractive hillside village of Grazalema. That’s it we said, nooo again! As we continued on now pretty sure of our final destination the picturesque pueblo blanco (white town) Ubrique situated in the Serrania de Ronda Mountains of Cadiz province. We definitely did not need our warm clothing, it was so warm and sunny in contrast to the weather that we returned to on the coast. For over a century, Ubrique has been world-renowned for its leather industry supplying the likes of Loewe, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. So we just had enough shopping time looking and in many cases purchasing handbags. I must say the leather goods are a delight being so attractive and soft. Other than many handbags to choose from, there were purses, wallets, shoes and clothing in the many shops. Far to many to look around on this visit. Many members said they would come again, probably taking the shorter route through Gaucin and Cortes de la Frontera, a route suitable for cars but not a coach. There are other attractions to see including the bullring, a bullfighting museum, Museo Taurino Jesulin de Ubrique the famous bullfighter, and a peña cultural UBRIQUE named after the bullfighter. Also of interest are the Baroque Public Fountain and the Al-Andalus fountain of Los Nueve Caños (Fountain of Nine Pipes). Many of the members then enjoyed a really excellent three course Menu del Dia at El Laurel de Miguel restaurant for 12€ including a drink found by Anne Cook on ‘Tripadvisor’. Well worth a visit to those that wish to return being close to the main street www.ellaureldemiguel.com So it was back to the coach to return the same way through the very scenic countryside, views of the almond blossom and seeing young lambs, calves and kids frolicking in the fields. Thanks Doug for a really pleasant day out even if some say they are now much lighter in the pocket. We all gave our thanks to our driver of the day for what was not the easiest of roads to negotiate. PAST EVENTS FEBRUARY 2017 Saturday 18th February French Themed Candlelit Supper I had a feeling this evening would be SPECIAL. It ticked all the right boxes from the start:It was to be in our clubhouse, Small in numbers, The theme - French. That feeling stayed as we sat down to start what turned out to be an excellent dinner! Paté, complimented with a good and tasty dressed salad, Bœuf Bourguignon with Lyonnaise potatoes, a mouth-watering cheese board, followed by a delicious and unusual profiterole dessert. Thank you, Ken, for a lovely evening and to those who helped you make it special – wife Sally, Richard & Julie, Aileena, Sheila Defres, birthday girl Isabela and Derrick and his wife Doreen. Tracy Bird Tuesday 28th February It was a windy sunny day when Ice members met on Shrove Tuesday at the Club for the annual pancake race. 8 ladies and 7 men volunteered to walk round the pool twice tossing their pancake 3 times at each corner carefully watched by the corner scrutineers. I am pleased to say no pancakes or members finished in the pool! The Ladies' race was won by Liz Hodson with myself coming a close 2nd. The Men's race was won by Dave Hodson closely followed by Rob Potter and Dave Hackett. Both winners were presented with the pancake trophy and a bottle of cava. Thanks go to Brenda Taylor and Diane Hackett for the many pancakes they had to cook to fill all our tummies and to Mac McIntyre and Nigel Nevshehir for being on the bar so that we were able to quench our thirsts. It was good to see the Club so busy on a Tuesday for a change. Sue Potter MARCH 2017 Thursday March 2nd - Club A.G.M. PAST EVENTS Eat, Drink and Be Murdered! The I.C.E. Players - 18th and 19th March 2017. In the I.C.E. Players’ latest production, elegant cards invited us to join two warring factions of a Whisky-producing family celebrating Rose’s 80th Birthday. In the form of a ‘murder mystery’ the whole play takes place in the ‘restaurant’ hosting the party. At the start, Rose McFadden (née O’Riley) (Julie Wood) declares that almost every member of the family was impatient to see her snuff it, but not before she revealed the secret ingredient that made their Wild Irish Rose whisky so special. If she didn’t tell someone what it was before she died, the family business would be ruined. But who should she tell? The guests were cleverly split into two groups, the McFaddens who run the distillery and the O’Rileys, mostly their employees. Connor McFadden (Del Stone) and Seamus O’Riley (David Gordon) spent some time rousing ‘their guests’ to support them, resulting in some hooting and booing as the story unfolded. Kathleen McFadden (Eve Stone) begins to emerge as the one with most to gain from Rose’s death but also with a history of ‘playing around’ with the employees. Father Mikey (Richard Wood) tries to keep order by thumping his Bible on the table, but he too has secrets relating to his hand in the Sunday collection tray and in Sister Mary’s undergarments. The intrigue deepens when Rose’s sister, Hannah O’Riley (Margaret Hall) whose animosity towards Rose results in them chasing each other around the ‘restaurant’, while the demure Nurse Kelly (Sue Davis) says little but acts suspiciously. A party would not be complete without music, and Disco Danny (Adrian Hall) obliges, complete with ginger wig. (Is that really Adrian under it?), When Father Mikey and Seamus devise Plan B (a pill slipped into Rose’s water) suspicion spreads. Rose and Hannah’s altercation ends with Rose revealing that her spinster sister had had a baby in her youth - and that baby was now Nurse Kelly! Each revealed clue was signalled by a Hitchcock-esque screech of a discordant violin. Or maybe it was Mrs Brown-esque! As Connor sits down at the dinner table next to Rose he takes a much-needed slurp of his whisky – and drops dead, falling head first into the Birthday cake! But, whodunit? Disco Danny finds the Eastenders theme to bring the drama to a close. Definitely Mrs Brown! At this point, the guests retire to eat, drink and decide who had ‘dunit’ – and with what motive, and to record it on the forms provided. Back in the ‘restaurant’, the denouement proceeds with Eve reading out some of the more amusing, if wrong, responses … and finally, announces the name of the murderer. This was the first time the Players had attempted such a play - not a cosy stage to work in, but the whole room, full of the audience, and nowhere to hide. The players did well with only a little need for prompting (Steffi Monahan). Eve who produced and directed the play thanked everyone involved with the production, the kitchen and bar staff, and those who decorated the restaurant and produced the programmes and tickets for the show. In return, Eve was presented with a lovely potted orchid by the cast, and she, in turn thanked the audience for their support. In all, a very good evening. Thank you Players. GARDEN CLUB The first Garden Club meeting this year was held at the ICE Clubhouse on Tuesday 14th March at 11.30 am. To my utter amazement we had 8 attendees in total, as the weather was absolutely atrocious to the extent I was going to cancel it up to only half an hour before time. It was good to welcome previous members and even a new member. As usual a few gardening problems were raised followed by members’ experiences and useful advice. Liz Dawson very kindly donated a large, heavy Garden Encyclopaedia to the club. Incredible photos of the Dubai Miracle Garden, the largest flower garden in the world, were passed around - simply amazing - huge structures embedded with plants/flowers definitely each photo has the wow factor. Future meeting dates are as follows: Tuesdays April 11th, May 9th, June 13th, July 11th, August 8th, and September 12th - all starting at 11.30 am. A discussion then took place as to where we could hold future meetings and it was decided the next meeting on Tuesday April 11th will be at Agrojardin Garden Centre at 11.30 am. So why not come and join us and maybe purchase some Spring plants. Everyone is very welcome. Tip of the month: a small length of hosepipe wound between garden plants helps keep off cats and birds as they don't like snakes. Submitted by Sandy Avis

Back In Time - 50 Years Ago - April 1967 The 1967 Grand National was the 121st renewal of the world-famous Grand National steeplechase that took place at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, England, on 8 April 1967. The race is best remembered for being won by rank outsider Foinavon at odds of 100/1, after being the only horse to avoid a mêlée at the 23rd fence and jump it at the first attempt. However, the most dramatic moment of the race, and perhaps of Grand National history, came when a loose horse — Popham Down, who had been hampered and unseated his rider at the first fence — veered dramatically to his right at the 23rd fence, slamming into Rutherfords, unseating its jockey Johnny Leech. A pile-up ensued. The undistinguished Foinavon, whose owner had such little faith in him that he had travelled to Worcester on race day instead, had been lagging so far behind that his jockey, John Buckingham, had sufficient time to steer his mount wide of the mêlée and find a small gap in the fence to jump cleanly on the outside. Being the only horse over the 23rd at the first attempt, Buckingham found himself with a surprise lead of 30 lengths. Foinavon crossed the finishing post 15 lengths clear. His success paid out a record 444/1 on the Tote. Puppet on a String" is the name of the Eurovision Song Contest-winning song in 1967 by British singer Sandie Shaw. It was her thirteenth UK single release. The song was a UK Singles Chart number one hit on 27 April 1967, staying at the top for a total of three weeks.

Gibraltar Airport has said it is modifying the runway with ramps. "This would aid take-offs because of a steeper ascent and would reduce the amount of fuel airlines need to burn to reach cruising altitude. "The ramps will also assist landings with the incline at the end of the runway reducing aircraft braking." Work is to start 1st April 2017.

I.C.E. Golf Society Last month 12 of us returned to La Cala Golf Resort, one of our favourites, to play the Campo Asia. The first of our three visits this year. The weather was great and the course was in good condition apart from being a little damp in places. Not being able to take the buggies on the fairways was unfortunate and slowed the rounds down. Well done to Frances, a guest, for taking first prize. However, we had fun, which what it is all about, apart from winning money, keeping fitter and having a glass or two in the bar afterwards. Always an opportunity to talk of hard luck stories, especially the one of when while taking ones final tee shot on the 18th, a giant, and I mean giant, butterfly attacked one’s face and completely destroyed one’s round.!!!! It was the size of a 747. I kid you not! Spring Cup 2017 18th April. This year we return to Dona Julia Golf Club. 50€ Green Fee including a shared buggy. 5€ Entry Fee. Both payable on the day. Shot-gun start at 08.45. The entry form is on the ICE club notice board now. If you wish to play, but are unable to get to the club, please let me know and it will be done. The presentation lunch, organised by Peter Henry, will be at La Choza. Details are also on the notice board and tickets are being sold now.

Other Dates for your Diary 21st. June and 19th July ' Away Days to la Cala Golf Resort. Campo Europa first then Campo America. 42€ including shared buggy and a light breakfast. First Tee Time 10.00. 'Casares Costa Golf Club Roll-Up’. We play a twice weekly 'Roll-Up' stableford competition on

Tuesdays and Fridays at Casares Golf Club where our members benefit from discounted green fees. The tee off time varies a little during the year and is currently 9.00am. Please by 8.30am. All levels are welcome and we often have as many as 12 or more taking part. It is all very light hearted, (in other words 'Cut Throat’) and it is worth putting your sense of humour in the bag! Our annual 'Order of Merit' trophy is awarded to the player with the best ten cards from these 'Roll-Ups' . Keep your eye on the club magazine and the website for details of all activities. Photography Hints and Tips Have fun with your camera! Create an abstract Digital capture has undoubtedly encouraged us to be more innovative, and more experimental when taking photographs. Why not explore this further, and consider some everyday objects in a fresh and original way to create some new and different images? All around us are details that, by isolating and highlighting them, can make some fun "abstract" photos. By focusing in, by looking for colour and patterns and shapes, and by intentionally moving your camera, you can achieve some astonishing results. Ordinary things can look curious, bizarre, strange and remarkable when selectively isolated; try looking at water, the movement, ripples and colours, and zoom in on these; look at sand patterns, water dragging multiple patterns across wet sand, footprints, half buried treasures. Plants too can provide shapes, lines, curves, colour that when picked out close range give detailed and beautiful forms. Bark, thorns, a single petal, a leaf joint, look closely, then get in close with your camera. Look around your kitchen, a simple cheese grater can make a super geometric image, try focusing inside from the wide end, or concentrate on the individual grating edges. Simplicity is a key here, think minimal, and you can compose a simple abstract that not only makes your viewers stop and think, but is beautiful in itself. Look for strong lines, geometric shapes, repeating patterns, textures, repeating patterns. Even more creative is pursuing intentional camera movement. This is more difficult, and can be hit and miss as far as results, but well worth a try. For starters, choose a location where there are tall vertical lines, like a row of trees or a forest. Press the shutter, and while holding it down, move the camera gently up and down vertically; continue moving the camera for a moment after you release the shutter. No two images will be alike, but you should get a soft impressionistic movement. Have fun! Debra

April 2017 New Apps for your Phone. Inkitt is available for iOS and Android. The App offers thousands of free novels from new and aspiring authors. You can download books to read offline. Trusted Contacts (Android only) This app can help if ever you are in danger or in an emergency. After adding your close family and friends, the app lets you share your location with these “trusted contacts” or request to see where they are. If there is no response within 5 minutes, the recipient’s location is automatically sent to the person who requested it. Google are currently working on an iOS version. Microsoft Office Many people ask if after upgrading to Windows 10 must they then install the latest version of Microsoft Office. The answer is no; older versions of Office will still work. If you are worried about security, Office 2007 will be supported until January 2018 and later versions even later. We would strongly advise against subscribing to Office 365 at about £7 p.m. Choose the latest version of the Home and Student Edition at about £120 one off payment. It is much better value, especially if you intend to use the software for more than 18 months. However our definitive advice would be to go for the free Libreoffice which is very similar in feel to Microsoft Office. We would certainly recommend giving it a try before splashing out on the latest version of Microsoft Office. You can always uninstall it if you don’t like it. Tracing Your Family History Group

The ICE club genealogy group was launched on 18th April 2014, yes it was 3 years ago now, and it was decided to launch at the regular computer meeting, as all researches from Spain would have to be done by the internet, and by using a computer. I have since changed the name of the group to Tracing Your Family History, which is what we attempt to do at the meetings We had a very good attendance of 20 members at the launch meeting, and it was decided that we would meet at 11.00am on the 2nd Friday of the month, for the genealogy group meetings. I gave an explanation of my experience with genealogy in the last 28 years, together with information on how to get started, and to how to record the information that is gathered. At the first meeting, one member, Richard Wood, explained that he knew very little about his family, other than his father, mother, and grandfather, and that his father emigrated to Australia with his father, and that his Mother and Father were married in Australia. Within a short period of time we were able to establish, that his father and grandfather travelled to Australia on the same boat that his Mother did, and although his Father remained in Australia, his Mother returned, only to travel back to Australia, arriving 1 month before they were married. We also discovered that Richard’s grandmother died when his father was 2, and his grandfather, married her sister 7 years after his first wife died. We have also been able to put him in touch with a 2 nd cousin he knew nothing about, and they now exchange e-mails on an almost weekly basis. We have on average about 6 members who attend the meetings, and it is always nice to get new “members” to the group. We had a “new” member earlier in the first year, Diane Brice, who like Richard, said they had very little knowledge of their ancestors. Diane came to the meeting with only a copy of a marriage certificate of her parents. In a short place of time we discovered that her Grandfather came from Germany, (she had always believed before that he was a Russian), and that he was an artist who married a Belgium lady in London, moved to Liverpool with their 1 year old son (Diane’s father) and moved in to a dwelling on the top of a building where he removed a wall and replaced it by glass to which he painted, and it is now part of an art gallery. Their son, Diane’s Father, became a photographer, which in the mid 1800’s was in the early stages of photography, and he became quite a famous photographer of his era. If you have ever considered that you might like to trace your ancestors, please come along to one of our meetings, on the 2nd Friday, and although I won’t promise the earth, I am sure we can get some information about your family that you didn’t know. It doesn’t matter how many attend our meetings, be it 2 or twenty, I am sure we can find some information about your ancestors. It is a hobby that you may want to only be involved in a few months of the year, and that is OK, because one thing is for sure, the information about your ancestors will not diminish, but may increase as more databases become available to search on line. Looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Dave Hackett.

Thanks to all those who have contributed items for your magazine this Edition. Please keep them coming. WANTED: Further input from members for your magazine, articles , experiences, useful information, recipes, anything of interest. It is getting more difficult to fill the pages.

JUST FOR A SMILE As          

I get older I realise: I talk to myself, because sometimes I need expert advice. Sometimes I roll my eyes out loud. I don’t need anger management, I need people to stop annoying me. My people skills are just fine. It’s my tolerance of idiots that needs work. The biggest lie I tell myself is “I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it”. When I was a child I thought naptime was punishment. Now it’s like a minivacation. The day the world runs out of wine is just too terrible to think about. Even duct tape can’t fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound. Wouldn’t it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for 10 minutes; come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller? “Getting Lucky” means walking into a room and remembering why I’m there.

THESE ARE ACTUAL COMPLAINTS RECEIVED BY "THOMAS COOK VACATIONS" FROM DISSATISFIED CUSTOMERS

1) "They should not allow topless sunbathing on the beach. It was very distracting for my husband who just wanted to relax." 2) "We went on holiday to Spain and had a problem with the taxi drivers as they were all Spanish." 3) "We booked an excursion to a water park but no-one told us we had to bring our own swimsuits and towels. We assumed it would be included in the price." 4) "The beach was too sandy. We had to clean everything when we returned to our room." 5) "We found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as white but it was more yellow." 6) "It's lazy of the local shopkeepers in Puerto Vallarta to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during 'siesta' time -- this should be banned." 7) "I think it should be explained in the brochure that the local convenience store does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts." 8) "It took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England. It took the Americans only three hours to get home. This seems unfair." 9) "When we were in Spain, there were too many Spanish people there. The receptionist spoke Spanish, the food was Spanish. No one told us that there would be so many foreigners." 10) "It is your duty as a tour operator to advise us of noisy or unruly guests before we travel. 11) "I was bitten by a mosquito. The brochure did not mention mosquitoes" 12) "My fiancée and I requested twin-beds when we booked, but instead we were placed in a room with a king bed. We now hold you responsible and want to be re-reimbursed for the fact that I became pregnant. This would not have happened if you had put us in the room that we booked." 13) "Although the brochure said that there was a fully equipped kitchen, there was no egg-slicer in the drawers." BE AWARE ... THEY WALK AMONG US and THEY BREED and THEY VOTE. TELL THE TRUTH...SOME OF THEM MAY BE BLONDE....RIGHT!!!!!! 18

Is it time to review your financial planning? By Javid Rustam, Associate Partner, Blevins Franks When was the last time you reviewed your financial planning? It is important to carry out a “wealthreview” from time to time to make sure your money is working as well as it can for you. Spending a little time now will help you preserve your wealth over the long term to meet your objectives. Key issues to consider are: • Are you up to date with the latest developments in Spain and internationally that affect you? • Do you have a considered, strategic tax and wealth management plan in place? • Are you confident that your estate planning will mean that the right money passes to the right heirs at the right time? • Do you need to consider your pension options? • Have there been any changes in your circumstances since you last reviewed your affairs? Estate planning It is important to take the Spanish regime into account because it may affect your heirs in unexpected ways. Succession and gift tax works very differently to UK inheritance tax, and can be costly in certain circumstances. Tax is paid by the recipient, with varying rates, where the asset being inherited is located in Spain or the recipient is resident in Spain. Spain also imposes forced heirship, so you cannot just leave assets to whomever your wish. Under the 2015 EU succession regulation Brussels IV UK nationals can opt for UK succession law to apply to their estate, but take personalised advice. Tax planning To protect yourself from unnecessary tax make sure your investments and wealth are placed in the most suitable arrangement to limit your tax liabilities. There are opportunities available in Spain which can considerably lower tax liabilities. Another incentive to review your tax affairs is the global automatic exchange of information regime under the Common Reporting Standard is now in force. The Spanish tax authority will receive information on every resident of Spain, without having to ask for it. Cross-border tax planning can be complex, so make sure you are declaring income and paying tax in the right country. Savings and investments You should have a long-term strategic asset allocation plan which is specifically designed around your circumstances, needs and risk profile. This should be reviewed around once a year to see if it needs re-balancing. In today’s world, diversification is more important than ever. It gives your portfolio the chance to produce positive returns over time without being vulnerable to any single area under-performing. So take advice to make sure you have a good mix of investment assets, countries, sectors, currencies etc. Whether it is investments, tax or pension planning, seek advice to ensure you do what works best for your personal situation. Use an adviser who can guide you on all these aspects and provide holistic solutions so you can have peace of mind that your financial affairs are in order. To keep in touch with the latest developments in the offshore world, check out the latest news on our website www.blevinsfranks.com

Reclaim Lost Property Deposits Many thousands of people from the UK or throughout Europe lost their deposit on a ‘Off plan Property’ due to either the Developer entering into Bankruptcy or the development not being completed. The Spanish Supreme Court has ruled that purchasers are now able to reclaim these ¨Lost Deposits¨ for up to fifteen years from the time when their property was deemed to be completed. However, each claim can only be brought before courts once and must be done so individually. Off Plan Property Deposit Refunds S.L. based in Estepona, are successfully reclaiming lost deposits for clients on a totally ¨No Win/ No Fee” basis in conjunction with our lawyers who are very well known and respected along the Costa Del Sol. They have been in practice for over twenty years and specialise in the process for reclaiming lost deposits through the Spanish Courts for the last ten years for hundreds of clients. There are NO “Upfront Costs¨ required and No Monies are required from a client at the outset or during the duration of a claim. Our ¨No Win / No Fee¨ basis has been set up whereby a fee is only paid on the successful outcome of an individual case. In the unlikely event a case is unsuccessful ALL COSTS on both sides are met by our lawyers as they are confident that when representing clients on a ¨No Win/No Fee¨ basis they WILL win the case. Call us on +34 642 74 07 08 or UK number +44 20 8150 3732 or Email: info@o-ppdr.com www.off-planpropertydepositrefunds.com Contact us today to discuss your possible claim with No Obligation. 44
