Crossing the strait between Europe and Africa, come and explore with us the unique and legendary city of Tangier - the ‘Gate of Africa’. An important interface between east and west, this north Moroccan city offers a fascinating mix of African, European and the Orient. From loud, bustling, traditional markets and street life to the rapidly developing and flourishing modern district, immerse yourself in the rich and varied heritage of this fascinating place. We will explore the most north-westerly point of Africa, Cape Spartel, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic Ocean and where many important historical events occurred. We will then visit the Caves of Hercules, which show evidence of Neolithic occupation, and learn the legendary saga of Hercules before returning to Tangier where we will dine in a traditional restaurant and experience the wonderfully tasty cuisine of Morocco. After a relaxing break, we will explore the famous Old Town of Tangier, learning more about the former International Zone and life in this magical city, which was a haven for many artists, painters and writers. We will stroll through the medina, with its fortifications, the Kasbah, where we will observe the hustle and bustle of the traders in the market, and enjoy the exotic atmosphere that Tangier has to offer.
