13–14: 27th Annual Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies Only Billfish Tournament Leading up to the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament, the ladies get their turn to reel in the Big One! The Alice Kelly Tournament is an annual event held the Sunday before the Billfish Tournament. The 27th Annual Alice Kelly Tournament, held Aug. 14 with registration on Aug. 13, is a fundraiser event for the Outer Banks Cancer Support Group. 16–19: 33rd Annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament The 33rd annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament is a world-class event and home to the State Record Blue Marlin caught on the 25th anniversary of the tournament, weighing in at a whopping 1,228.5 pounds! 2000 Sailfish Dr., Manteo. 252-305-3610. 17–18: New World Festival of the Arts A juried exhibition featuring 75 selected artists from east coast exhibiting and selling their works on the Manteo Waterfront. This outdoor art show has been held since 1981. Free. 10 a.m. 252-473-5558. DareArts.org

SEPTEMBER 7–8: The OBX Arts & Crafts Festival This annual show features a superb variety of creations from 25 Outer Banks artists whose specialties include painting, pottery, jewelry, photography, basketry, glasswork, fiber and textile arts, collage, metalwork and more. In addition to the handcrafted art, you can gather information about two local charities that participate in the show. A portion of artists’ entrance fees is donated to the charities. 18–24: Eastern Surfing Championships Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) contests are organized at the grassroots, district level on a yearround basis. 21–24: Annual Outer Banks Bluegrass Island Festival Ages 7 and older must have a ticket. Parking at RIFP will be for VIP and those handicapped only. Off-site parking is available at The Lost Colony (Fort Raleigh) with shuttle service; round trip is $5, and services begin at 9:30 a.m. daily.
