our mission.

Founded by a group of combat Veterans in Kansas City, MO, Veterans Community Project offers an innovative, community-based housing program and walk-in outreach center to Veterans at-risk of, or experiencing, homelessness.

Veterans housing Veterans, armed with the strength and support of the community.

Located on a 7-acre property west of North 60th Street and Green Tree Road in the city’s northwest side, Veterans Community Project of Milwaukee will be a specialized village of tiny homes with onsite, wraparound support services designed to equip Veterans with the tools needed to return to a stable, prosperous, independent life.

Each tiny home features a fully-functioning kitchen, bathroom, and everything a Veteran needs to live with safety and dignity: new furniture, appliances, housewares, bedding, and personal items. The homes offer sanctuary and the emotional space needed for each resident to thoroughly address the underlying causes of his or her homelessness.

With the support of their case managers and Village

battle buddies, Veterans work to achieve incremental, lasting results in the areas of health and wellness, income stability, education, and training. Once the Veteran's individual goals are met, VCP assists him or her in securing a permanent housing solution and transitioning to a new life.

Veterans Community Project operates by the sacred rule of leave no one behind.

The Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative believes that 1 of every 4 homeless persons in Milwaukee is a Veteran; 200-300 Veterans are homeless on any given day.

Over the course of a year, four times that many are homeless for a time. An additional 5,500 local Veterans are classified as "at-risk" of homelessness.

VCP serves all who took the oath, regardless of discharge status, type, or length of service. We do not accept funding that requires us to leave any of our brothers or sisters on the battlefield of homelessness alone.

proven success.

Veterans Community Project is the community's project. What began as a grassroots effort in Kansas City, Missouri has become a national movement. Thousands of volunteers build and maintain the Villages, organize donation drives, host fundraisers, pack hygiene bags, or find other meaningful ways to serve those who served our country.

Having created a successful blueprint to effectively address Veteran homelessness in Kansas City, VCP has begun its national expansion to serve Veterans experiencing homelessness nationwide beginning with Longmont, Colorado; St. Louis, Missouri; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Milwaukee, WI.

“When I stepped into that house and had my own things after being homeless for 4 or 5 years ... it was almost too good to be true.
I got my pride back, which was a big thing for me.”
