I could thing of one more thing, which is “The NFL regular season” is going to start in the month of September. This year, the opening game of the season will be the Buffalo Bills at the LA Rams. Ready!! Season

We Love Color! Plenty Ways to Go Bold in Your Wardrobe

Start by asking yourself, how can you began to wear your favorite fall trends when it’s still 85 degrees outside? Easy! It’s just a simple fashion secret, the hot/cool strategy! This strategy shows you how to take a summer piece and incorporate it with some fall pieces. Not everyone would understand this, being that this is like a fashion secret that’s never been revealed. Hot; throw some shorts on with a tank top, wrap a button up around your waist, and top your hot/cool look off with some thigh high boots. So simple! Cool; double up on the Colors this Fall! Even if you decide to go bare armed in the fall, you can always drop a sweater, blazer, windbreaker or some sort of jacket over your shoulders to spice up the outfit. During the fall riding boots, booties, and thigh highs seem to be very popular! These particular items are acceptable in the summer also because nine times out of ten, they either have holes in them, or a decent color complimenting both seasons and they can pretty much be worn with any bottom. From jeans, skirts, shorts, knickers, slacks, and etc. booties and riding boots compliments them the most. I could be wearing my lovely fall blazer, but with just a regular top and some shorts, and still be fall ready.

8 | September 2022

In some areas around the world people are still prancing around in 90 degree weather even though it is the fall season. Regardless of the degrees there are numerous ways to pull off these fall fashions.

Today’s fashions are expanding tremendously! Wear your bright Bold Colors this Fall. But this year, we’re seeing vibrant, joyful shades of bright yellows and greens, fierce fuchsia, dreamy blues, and so much more. Of course, autumn’s go-to shades are in the mix this year!

10 | September 2022 We Love Color! Plenty of Ways to Go Bold with color in Your Life - Fly a Kite We have a fabulous time with our kites and with each other.

• I love flying all kites, big or small, and the happiness of the “little kid” in me at play in the sky with the colors and designs of great artists that created them.

•replies:Ilove that the kites are just part of something bigger. Sharing a passion that speaks art and sport is powerful.

• I love how the AKA has organized a bunch of crazy kiters into a great community.

• I love that something as diverse as kites is a catalyst for relationships.

many pleasures, kiteflying offers many ways of testing and refining one’s skills in making and flying kites. Some days are better than others, but nearly all kiteflying adventures provide experiences and stories to share with others who share this passion. The kite community is an extremely creative collection of individuals who enjoy sharing their creativity with others and who are highly appreciative of the creativity of others (even if we sometimes wonder about their stories).

11 | September 2022

Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to express this joy, so we asked fellow kitefliers to describe what they love about kites, kite flying, or the kite community. Here are some of our favorite

• I love being there to witness the glint of pure joy in the eyes of those freshly borne unto the freedom of kiting.

• I love that perfect balance of lift and drag that keeps the tails lazily flowing—little streams of relaxation in the sky.

• I love the sound of the lines as they hum in the wind.

• I love that I helped a young guy get good at sewing 25 years ago; now I get to go to his birthday bash every year. I watched him build paper kites with his young sons last time.

• I love being in the flow when I fly kites, and I love feeling free (at least a little) from gravity and the weight of the Amongworld.its

16 | September 2022 by The Smoker King Its Tailgating Season

Get ready fellow tailgaters, football season has arrived once again. Go BIG 12! That means lots of barbeque, football games, and unforgettable memories. Being a Texas Tech Red Raider, I have thrown many tailgate parties, and I am excited and sad to say that this will be my last football season I will get to experience as a student. I will graduate in December of 2005. But believe me, there will be many more to come after Throwingcollege. a great tailgate party is lots of fun, but it is hard work too. If you are in charge of the party, make sure you take the time to plan out what you are going to cook, what supplies you need, and who is going to do what. In the past, I have made the mistake of trying to do everything myself. The only thing that accomplishes is me being worn smooth out. It is important to recruit lots of friends to help out. After all, if they want to eat and hang out at your tailgate, they can pitch in too. Another important thing to do is to collect money from everyone who is coming before the tailgate. If you wait until after the game to try to collect money, good luck. Another thing, don’t put a jar out at your tailgate that says please pitch in. You will find that people will put a total of 20 bucks in the jar throughout the tailgate, and some punk will steal the jar at the end. Thank you whoever you are.

Being a cook at a tailgate entails lots of hard work.

If you are fortunate enough live near the coast where you can buy good shrimp, then try this grilled shrimp recipe. Everyone will love it. It gives the shrimp a sweet and spicy flavor that everyone will love. Make sure you have a bunch of shrimp because they will go fast.

For those of you looking for a great way to smoke a brisket, check out the smoking a brisket page. This is the technique I use to smoke a perfect brisket.

My grilled tequila lime chicken recipe is a great recipe for cooking chicken that will be used in fajitas. I have had no complaints yet. Maybe everyone is modest.

To make it easier, prepare as much of the food as you can ahead of time. That way you can sit down and hang out with your friends some instead of running around frantically trying to get everything done on time. A great and simple snack that everyone loves is a jalapeno popper. You can make many of them ahead of time and have them ready to pop on the grill when a snack is needed. If you have a hot fire, it can be quite tricky to grill many of them at the same time without burning yourself or burning the poppers. I use this grill basket to cook them. You can grill about 20-25 at a time with one, and you won’t burn yourself. I think they are typically used to grill fish, but they work great for just about anything.

Oswego, New York Named for an Iroquois word meaning “place of the pouring out,” this town located near where the Oswego River and Lake Ontario meet, is overflowing with gorgeous architecture, cute eateries (Rudy’ Lakeside Drive-In will have you craving its Texas hots and fried scallops long after you leave town), and dreamy summer sunsets (see: Historic Fort Ontario). We’d recommend a kayaking tour with Oswego Expeditions, but if you’re more of a landlubber, check out the annual Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta in June. For July visitors, don’t miss Harborfest, July 27-30, 2023, with free music, fireworks, and more. THE MOST FUN SMALL TOWNS FOR A LAKE TRIP

Vallecito Lake, Colorado JESSE WRAY If you want a secluded vacation, good luck finding a spot to outshine this “little valley.” Nestled in a beautiful and isolated mountain valley 8,000 feet above sea level, Vallecito Lake is the ancestral home to many of Colorado’s Ute Indians. About 18 miles from Durango, it’s tough to narrow down what lake activity to start with. Our vote? Stand-up paddle boarding on the gentle North shore, followed by a kayak session. Don’t miss spending a day exploring the San Juan National Forest, with a quiet beauty unlike any you’ve ever seen. Book your stay at the inviting Elk Point Lodge and be sure to grab a bite at The Weminuche Woodfire Grill with lake views that no camera could do justice. For more information, visit colorado.com.

Vergennes, Vermont BASIN HARBOR Perched on scene-stealing Lake Champlain, this lake has an impressive history of battles, which you can learn about at The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum As the sun sets, relax at Basin Harbor Resort & Boat Club. If you prefer to swap the sea for land, their craft workshops and guided biking excursions are a must, as well. (Note: cottages and guest rooms are certainly options, but you can also stay aboard your boat in an overnight slip!) When yo get hungry, head to Vergennes Laundry where you’ll definitely want to save room for indulgences like gingersnaps and pâtes de fruits. For more information, visit vergennesdowntown.org.

You betchya. Perfect picnics under oak trees? But of course. If you’re visiting this idyllic lake in North Carolina’s Eastern region, stay in nearby Whiteville, North Carolina at The Madison House. While in town, you’re definitely going to want to spend time kayaking the largest freshwater lake in the state, and scoping out Lake Waccamaw State Park (park rangers regularly hold educational programs for visitors). When you’ve worked up a sufficient appetite, slurp up some swoonworthy oysters at Dale’s Seafood on the shores of this glimmering natural wonder. For more information, visit ncparks.gov.

Consider the SC Festival of Stars, Wednesday, June 22 through Saturday, June 25. For more information, visit visitgreenwoodsc.com.

Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina Animal species you can’t find anywhere else on Earth?

Greenwood, South Carolina OLD 96 DISTRICT TOURISM Lake Greenwood in Lake Greenwood State Park, located right outside the towns of Ninety Six (yes, real name) and Greenwood, offers 11,400-acres of floating fun. Kick up your feet at the Inn on the Square between grub sessions at Good Times Brewing at The Mill House and the Cheeseburger House. Got a hankering for a good old fashioned festival?

Louisiana COURTESY OF The town of Breaux Bridge, founded in 1829, sits on the shores of Lake Martin, which has the largest nesting area of wading birds in the United States. Many residents here are of Cajun descent (and still speak Cajun French) and their enthusiasm for living in the “Crawfish Capital of the World” is contagious. Le Pont-Breaux offers boating, fishing, kayaking, bird watching and air boat tours, but we’d urge you to spend a day antiquing, especially at Langiappe Antiques Market, a 17,000 square-foot hub for art and other treasures. Bring your loot back to the spacious Bayou Cabins, and enjoy your private porch with a pile of magazines. At Buck & Johnny’s, treat yourself to Cajun-Italian fusion, and if you can, hit up their famous Zydeco breakfasts on the weekend. For more information, visit lafayettetravel.com.

Breaux Bridge,

New York COURTESY OF DESTINATION NIAGARA USA

We’ll never tire of the views on the 45-minute drive from Niagara Falls to this old-timey hamlet. Ditto the jumbo popcorn from Bye’s Popcorn, a family-owned roadside popcorn stand. The whole fam will swoon for Olcott Beach Carousel Park, which features a 1928 Hershell-Spillman two-row carousel, a collection of fun kiddie rides, and a 1931 Wurlitzer band organ. If your crew is mostly adults, venture to the allegedly haunted Winery at Marjim Manor for guided ghost tours, a yoga class, or, you know, vino. As the moon rises, retreat to The Old Olcott Beach Fire Station Guestrooms & Suites, within walking distance of Krull Park, Olcott Beach, and the Olcott Beach Carousel Park. Another favorite? Golden Hill State Park and the Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse, where you can hit the hay in the lighthouse’s guest suite. For more information, visit niagarafallsusa.com.

That starts with a vision of what your space could be. We might not always be able to see that vision for ourselves and sometimes we just need a little bit of help.

With a quick look at Wilson’s portfolio, it is easy to see her expertise. She is not afraid to go outside of the box and her clients will appreciate her use of color and bold statement pieces. Though she guides projects as the designer, her work with clients is very much a partnership to understand their individual needs. Her process begins with a consultation to determine how to best deliver what her clients are looking for while providing a blueprint for the finished product.

“I’m not necessarily asking questions like what’s your favorite color or anything like that, I’m just really getting a feel for the client because at the end of the day when the project is completed, I want them to feel like the space reflects who they are as a person, as a family. And I want them to be able to enjoy it for years to come.”

It’s not always easy knowing how to unlock a home’s fullest potential.

Growing up, Wilson watched her mother’s upholstery work which piqued her early interest in design. Her first unofficial design project was her own apartment, where she would redecorate and re-arrange spaces for her and her roommates. While her interest in interior design was initially informal, Wilson left corporate America to pursue her interior design degree in 2014. Upon her graduation, she started her Chansaerae Designs business, which now serves D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Sarah Wilson, Interior designer, and owner of Chansaerae Designs, challenges the safety of neutral tones to give her clients a perfect pop of color.

So why should you look to Chansaerae Designs to transform a space from dull to dreamy? Because designers like Sarah Wilson know what it takes to get that straightfrom-a-magazine look. This is partly because designers know what small changes make the biggest differences; changes the average homeowner will likely overlook. Of

“We basically spend about two hours talking about the project; asking [clients] questions about how they want the space to work, what are current pain points, what kind of timeline, and really getting to know them as people so that I know what the best design will be to fit their space and also to fit their personality,” says Wilson.

to move. Of course, there is nothing wrong with preferring neutral tones, but Wilson says the prospect of selling a home should not discourage anyone from designing their house for them and their families. Her message for hesitant homeowners is clear: live in your house.

“Lighting is so huge. People don’t realize how lighting can change the whole feeling of your house…you could go into a paint store and pick a color of paint and bring it back to your house and it could look completely different based on your lighting, based on the temperature of your lighting, based on placementtheof your lighting. That’s why andwaydoespeoplesometimesthinkpaintnotstainthetheythoughtit’sreallythe lighting,” said happenstheforboldorindecisivenesssome,tonon-neutralcomesitchoosehomeownerscolorWilson’sclientelehome.andbringaonlycolorthatDesignsChansaeraeWilson.showsapopofcannotpersonalizespacebutcannewlifeluxurytoaWhileheradmiresextensivepallet,manytoplaysafewhenittoaddingcolorsahome.Foritmaybethefearofcolorsbutothersitisfearofwhatiftheydecide

the seemingly minor details within a home,Wilson says the importance of lighting is greatly underestimated. From the vibe of the room to the illusion of space, knowing how to incorporate good lighting is a must.

are unique in style from an expert point of view. Regardless of the size or function of the space Chansaerae Designs exceeds client expectations. To Wilson, the satisfaction of being able to bring a client’s vision to life is the most rewarding part of the process.

As with any design project, the goal is to make every space the best it can possibly be all while

“You shouldn’t be worried about what’s going to happen after you decide to sell, after you die or your kids need to sell it, whatever. You spend so much time in your home that you should absolutely live the way that you need while you’re there because guess what? Nine times out of ten people move into ahouse and they want to paint it their own colors. So don’t worry about the people that are coming behind you. Live in your home,” says Wilson, “Unless you’re an investor. and you’re flipping homes, I don’t think that you should be worried about the people that are coming behind you. What if you do your house and you spend the next 20 years there and you’re like, ‘oh,I’m not going to paint because I might sell my house at some point.’ Before you sell your house, you’re going to have to paint anyway.”

I love whole home projects but I do work with clients on kitchens and Wantbathrooms.totalk about a possible project? Schedule a free phone call with me today by clicking on this link. “All the hard work that we put in comes into fruition,” she says, “A client has a small glimpse based on a 3D model of the potential of their space, but then when it’s done, and they can go in there and touch and feel; it’s the satisfaction for me that they just love the space so much because it just looks so amazing and nothing that they thought. They’re always like, ‘oh wow, this looks like a magazine’ and that always makes me feel amazing. Like, every hiccup, whatever we had to go through to get there is forgotten

When you think of home what comes to mind? As your Interior Designer I like to create a home for you that feels like you. What do I mean by that? I mean that it will be a reflection of your style, your experiences and your wants. But even with that it will far exceed your expectations. Interior design is more than just fluffing pillows, it’s about creating the correct flow and functionality in your home. Although I’m located in Bowie, MD, I work with clients in Washington DC, and all throughout Northern Virginia.
