A NEW YEAR FOR ROTARY July 1 is not only Canada Day but coincidentally marks the start of another Rotary year, with a new president, secretary, treasurer and directors taking office. For the Rotary Club of Vernon the changeover came on June 30 with incoming president Rina 2010-2011 executive of the Rotary Club of Vernon led Wheeldon and her new The by Piper Graham Foster officers taking over after Lorne Rosnau completed his term. In the coming year the club will continue with its major fundraiser - the Online Auction – held in November and December. The funds go for a variety of activities – among them are scholarships at the five secondary schools in Lumby and Vernon, and funds for a playground at the historic O’Keefe Leyenda Petit of Kalamalka Secondary School receiving Ranch. a scholarship from Rotarian Peter Tassie at the graduation ceremony in June

As part of the activities in our international District, the club together with the other clubs in Vernon and Armstrong hosted a Group Study Exchange team from a district in Sussex and Surrey, United Kingdom. Later this year the district will select candidates from throughout the Okanagan and north central Washington for an exchange to Bangladesh in January and February 2011. Candidates should be between ages 25 and 40, active in their vocation or profession, and not be members of Rotary.
