VERBIER INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL BILINGUAL EDUCATION, FRENCH-ENGLISH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL ENSEIGNEMENT BILINGUE, FRANÇAIS-ANGLAIS ECOLE PRIMAIRE ET SECONDAIRE Verbier International School first opened its doors in September 2010, under the name of St. George’s School. The school is based in the Chalet Mascotte, in the centre of Verbier, and welcomes students from 3 to 16 years of age, with reception, primary and secondary sections. Teaching is provided by Englishand French-speaking staff.

Thibaut Descoeudres, the Headmaster, has lived in Valais for 20 years. He has taught mathematics and sports for several years and previously managed “Les Elfes” international camp in Verbier. From an early age he has been active in many sporting activities: tennis, skiing (qualified ski instructor), MTB (competing in the Grand Raid on several occasions), ice hockey (currently coach of HC Red Ice juniors) and paragliding (world cup pilot). The school offers a broad and balanced programme and a wide range of sporting, artistic and cultural activities. During the winter, two afternoons a week are set aside for skiing. The “Wednesday School” enables children from age 4 to 8 years to attend the school just on Wednesdays, in order to improve their English skills. Verbier International School prepares its students to strive for excellence in life. Small class sizes enable teachers to address the individual educational needs of each child. “Our aim is to grow the school and to open a boarding school in 2014, providing one of the finest multilingual educational experiences on offer in Switzerland”, stated Daniela Re, the new General Manager of the school’s foundation, previously Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the schools at Glion and Roches. “We are fortunate to have the full confidence and support of the parents. Our project is sound, but must be implemented gradually and patiently,” added Thibaut Descoeudres. L’École Internationale de Verbier a ouvert ses portes en septembre 2010 sous le nom de St. George’s School. Basée dans le chalet Mascotte, au cœur de la station, l’école accueille des élèves de 3 à 16 ans répartis dans les sections enfantines, primaires et secondaires. Le cursus scolaire est prodigué par des enseignants anglophones et francophones. Le directeur, Thibaut Descoeudres, vit en Valais depuis une vingtaine d’années. Il enseigne pendant plusieurs années les mathématiques et le sport, il a également dirigé le camp international « Les Elfes » à Verbier.

Depuis son plus jeune âge, il pratique de nombreux sports: tennis, ski (patente de prof de ski), VTT (plusieurs participations au Grand Raid), hockey sur glace (actuellement entraineur au mouvement junior du HC Red Ice) et parapente (pilote de coupe du monde). L’école offre un programme vaste et équilibré́ ainsi qu’un large éventail d’activités sportives, artistiques et culturelles. Le ski est pratiqué deux après-midi par semaine en hiver. « L’école du mercredi » permet à tous les enfants de Verbier et des environs, âgés de 4 à 8 ans, d’améliorer leurs compétences en anglais. L’école internationale de Verbier prépare les étudiants à viser l’excellence dans leur vie. Un petit nombre d’élèves par classe permet à nos enseignants de prendre en compte les besoins individuels de chacun. « L’intention est de faire croître l’école et d’ouvrir un internat dès 2014 afin d’offrir l’une des meilleures éducations internationales en Suisse » exprime Daniela Re, nouvelle présidente du comité exécutif de l’école, ancienne vice présidente et directrice des finances des écoles de Glion et des Roches. « Nous bénéficions de la pleine confiance des parents et également de leur soutien. Notre projet est solide mais il doit se faire avec douceur et patience » ajoute Thibaut Descoeudres.
