Six Important Factors in Obtaining Certification as a Registered Nurse
Becoming a registered nurse, also known as an RN, entails a lengthy educational process, and depending on what country you live in and what level of study is taken on, it can take up to six years to complete. There are several requirements that need to be met in order to satisfy the eligibility criteria.

The applicant must have graduated from an accredited nursing program and hold a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree or a comparable diploma in nursing.
In the United States, this test is called NCLEX-RN, short for the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nurses. It is mandatory for all RN’s in the US to have passed this exam.
The candidate must provide a report of any criminal convictions, dependencies to chemicals or drugs of any sort, and disclose details of any way in which their functional abilities could be compromised.

The applicant must pay the required fees to the appropriate certifying body along with all required documents noted above.

Once a certification is granted, the RN must keep their license in good standing by paying the necessary fees on time.

All RN’s must complete requisite courses of continuing education as set out by their local governing body.
While each country has its own set of regulations and governing body to oversee compliance on these issues, its it the onus of the licensee to maintain their license in good standing. Additionally, if an RN plans to relocate to another country or another state to continue working as an RN, it is always advisable to research regulations at the new location in order to assure the validity of their license.
