Erasmus+ is a EU's programme to support education, training, youth, and sport in Europe. It provides opportunities for over 4 million participants to study, train, gain experience, and volunteer abroad. Erasmus+ facilitates the implementation of the strategy Europe 2020 for development, employment, social equity, and inclusion, as well as the achievement of the aims set out in the Strategic Framework – Education and Training 2020.

Withing Erasmus+ programme learners of Ventspils Vocational Technical school have visited:

I practiced at a training school and in a company, where I learned many new things. The most important experiences were gained at the training school.

Māris Jēka

Participant of Erasmus+ mobility programme

During the mobility period, we worked in a company where we built an iron money box. The following week, however, we worked in an airplane factory, where we built airplane seats. The most important experience was gained in the airplane factory, as I had to work with people speaking German. Unfortunately, I didn’t speak the language.

Kārlis Gogols

Participant of Erasmus+ mobility programme We built a mechanic piggy box. I learned how to process steel properly. On the positive side, we made new friends. On the negative side, it was difficult to understand German.

Mariuss Milts

Participant of Erasmus+ mobility programme I improved my technical skills and learned how to work with the lathe.

WHAT DO OTHERS SAY ABOUT US?

My most striking impressions are related to meeting new people. I had the opportunity to play in the basketball team of the Technical School and help our team become the two-time champion in basketball in the city of Ventspils. The moment I won the 3rd place in the competition for young specialists “Skills Latvia” is still very vivid in my memory. In my opinion, the school provides high-quality education. I would like to particularly highlight the commitment of Inga Roga, who was my vocational education teacher and later also my colleague. Her dedication and willingness to pass on her knowledge to the learners is simply remarkable! I believe that Ventspils has a great potential for providing highquality education, given the fact that there are many new technologies encouraging young people to learn and acquire new skills, not to mention the modern and appealing infrastructure in general.

I don’t regret it for a single second that I chose Ventspils Vocational Technical school. If I had the chance to return to this school, I would not hesitate to do it again. I sincerely recommend this educational establishment to everyone who has set the mind on choosing one of the professions offered by this school.

My most striking impressions are related to our successful participation in a pilot project on work-based learning. Modern learning environment and accommodation facilities in line with the current standards. The teaching staff is welcoming and understanding, whereas the managerial staff is strong and organized in solving different issues. In my opinion, Ventspils Vocational Technical school has a great potential for growth. Teamwork is the key to success!

HISTORY OF VENTSPILS VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOL

Established in 1906, it was a private educational institution – a trade school with the right of a crown school. A total of 66 children – 49 boys and 17 girls – were admitted to the school in the first school year. The fact that both boys and girls attended the same school was something new in the city. In the following years, it became a Stateowned school and changed its name several times. The school continues to operate up to this day, with exception of shorter breaks during the war and post-war period. “Steady work overcomes all!” – this quote of the Roman writer Vergil is the slogan of Ventspils Vocational Technical school, and this message is also built into the wall of the school, built in 1912. It not only stands for prosperous career opportunities, but also means that all efforts and dedication bring achievements and recognition.

On 20 August 2015, the new complex of Ventspils Vocational Technical school, namely, a fully reconstructed historic building of the Technical School, was inaugurated. In addition, several new premises for practical training and modern accommodation facilities were constructed. All the merit goes to the company AS “UPB”, which is the author of the technical design of the buildings, and especially Uldis Pīlēns, an architect with international experience in developing projects.
