Selfish the Shellfish

Once upon a time, deep down on the ocean floor, there lived a shellfish named Selfish. She was given that name because she only thought of herself.

One day, during a playdate, her friend Shelly wanted to play tag, so she asked Selfish if she wanted to play.
NO!
Selfish replied, “No! I want to play what I want to play! I want to play Hide & Seek!� 3
Her friend said, “OK!” They played Hide & Seek for 10 minutes, then Shelly wanted to play something else.
to I’m going go hide!
Shelly said, “Let’s play Thumb War!” Selfish replied, “I don’t like that game! Let’s play Simon Says!” 4
Shelly said, “Can I be Simon?” Selfish said, “No! I’m Simon! I’m the only one who can be Simon!”
NO!
Her friend decided to go play something else with her other friends, and do you know what Selfish said? She said, “NO!” 5
By this time, Shelly had had enough! She decided she no longer wanted to play with Selfish.
!!!
Selfish was very upset because no one wanted to play with her. She was also confused as to why. She found herself alone and very unhappy. 6
Selfish thought to herself, “Why did she leave?� Then she thought about how selfish she had been.

So she went back to her friend to apologize. 7
Shelly forgave her and gave her another chance. Shelly said excitedly, “I have a great idea!” “Let’s stop playing and get a snack, I’m really hungry!”
Selfish said, “Music to my ears!” They both went inside for a yummy, healthy snack. 8
Since Selfish the shellfish was no longer selfish, they decided to give her a different name.
From that day forward, she was known as
SELFLESS the SHELLFISH
Wear your shell necklace as a reminder to always be considerate of others! 9
SELFISH THE SHELLFISH was written for a child by a child.
Ajna Lipsey - Age 9 Ajna was experiencing moments with her friends where she discovered that she and her friends were both being selfish. She began to understand when she chose to be more considerate of her friends, her friends became more considerate of her. May we all strive to be more like Selfless the Shellfish and learn to consider the needs of others. DEFINITION OF SELFISH: lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure. DEFINITION OF SELFLESS: concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own; unselfish.
