ey everyone! Welcome to issue 8! I hope everyone is enjoying 2019 so far. I know we are. I hope you are following us on social media to see all the behind the scenes for the magazine and stay up to date on car shows and much more going on in the community. If you aren't, you can find us on Instagram, Facebook and Youtube. This issue we got to check out a few one of a kind rides. We went up to Mount Charleston with #CrooksLife to shoot a 2005 Ferrari F430 on air ride suspension with a ton of mods done to it. We also check out a drift Mustang. It is cool to see American cars getting more involved in drifting over the years. When we saw this Mustang being built for drifting specifically, we wanted to see more. Last but not least in the featured vehicles for this issue is Chris's 1995 Chevy Silverado. Being out with this truck was awesome. The paint scheme and overall build brings on a certain chill vibe. This truck is body dropped, bagged and rocking all the bells and whistles you would want on a build this nice. Besides checking out all those rides we also went to the first Midnight Mayhem of 2019. They had a great turn out and it is awesome to see so many people enjoying legal drag racing at the local track. The very next day we found ourselves back at the speedway and at the Grand Opening of Police Chase LV. This one of a kind experience puts you behind the wheel of a police cruiser or a get away car for a high speed pursuit experience. a build that got out of control, but it's hard to complain when you check out this Body dropped silverado
THIS
truck was clearly made by someone who had a vision and knew what they were doing. Chris Gellner’s 1995 Chevrolet Silverado is nothing short of a work of art. I have a lot of great things to say about this ride but I think I should let the photos do the talking, just out of respect.
Born and raised in our patch of paradise known as Las Vegas, Chris has always had a taste for anything vehicle related. When he got his first ride back in 1994 he hit the car scene immediately. In 1996 he attended his first real show, Endless Summer, and was hooked on the mini truck lifestyle. Chris is also a dedicated family man, married to his wife, Mindi, and has three kids to keep things interesting. He has made a career for himself in the gaming industry starting out as a dealer and moving all the way up to VP. Bryce Mills and Chris opened up Rodshop but unfortunately with his position in the casino industry, they had to close the doors. We
asked Chris what made him want to buy this truck. Chris told us he stumbled across a full size Chevy pickup on the cover of Trucking Magazine in the late 90’s, that was painted by Kal Koncepts outside of Bakersfield, California and knew he needed one for himself. In 2009 he nabbed this pickup from Phoenix for a whopping $1200. Nearly completely disassembled, Chris hauled it back home on a trailer and in multiple boxes. Since buying it he has replaced everything on the truck except for the cab, but damn was it worth it.
Starting with the bones of this rig, the frame has a 2in body drop from the cab back and a 16 gallon fuel cell underneath the bed. Front suspension is held up by Michigan Metal Works Arms, with a 2 link and drag bar in the rear, and Slam Specialties RE7 bags on all 4 corners installed by Tommy Harmer at Tommy Rocker Fab. A FLO air tank is handled by a Slam Specialties manifold and MC.2 controller. Dual Viar 444’s Fill it up and the lines were run through the bed by Bryce Mills. A set of 22in Vision wheels tuck nicely up into the fenders provided by Josh at Wheelhouse. Adam Madrigal shaved and smoothed the entire exterior and finished it up with a coat of primer. Chris says it stayed this way for quite a while before Dion Giuliano and Craig Fraser at Kal Koncepts got their hands on it. Line-X was sprayed on the bed and they used House of Kolor paint to give the truck it’s one of a kind design which got it into the House of Kolor booth at SEMA in 2013. Inside the dash is out of a ’96 Chevy, the B pillars were shaved to get rid of the seat belt brackets, and lap belts were installed. A Colorado Custom billet steering
wheel and four buckets seats wrapped in grey leather and black suede inserts really make it a classy ride. All of the upholstery was handled by Quality Upholstery here in town. As far as a sound system is concerned a Kenwwood head unit controls the Alipne speakers and JL Audio amp and sub. The amp and sub are hidden by a custom center console that runs from the dash to the rear seats, designed and installed by Patrick Molnar. What a list! When we asked Chris what his favorite thing on his truck was, he said “I would have to say the airbrush work on the paint. Its subtle and most people don’t notice it.” So if you see it in person get a good look. You can usually catch him and the family taking the truck to Cars & Coffee and he never misses the Forbidden Fantasy show out in Laughlin. If he isn’t at work or laying frame at shows he’s playing hockey with his son, or just relaxing with the family catching a movie. As far as future plans for the ride, he’s looking to maybe do an LS swap for that easy power and decent MPG. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it right?

WORDS Adrian Mirabal IMAGES Clinton Rowley | adrian mirabal We all know Las Vegas is home to some of the craziest driving experiences in the world. You can drive full blown race cars on the track. Rent super cars to drive up and down the strip and much more. We assure you this experience is up there in the adrenaline rush chart. Police Chase LV just celebrated their grand opening this January and we had the opportunity to attend and try out the experience ourselves. They had Erik Estrada out there to promote the event and their entire fleet, including some show cars and their prison transport bus that they use to pick up guests from their hotel. At Police Chase LV their tag line is “Getting caught is half the fun�. As cheesy as it may sound, that is true! Of course you all want to try your driving abilities to the max and you may outrun the police cruiser in the chase but during the pit maneuver (yes they actually allow you to be pit maneuvered) you definitely want to get caught and enjoy the ride! You can see some videos of this on their website. The experience has a few different options and packages. You can choose one or chose to do them all. When you get there you are required to go through a mandatory safety video/class before getting behind the wheel. Once you are through that, you get to decide

good guy or bad guy, cops and robbers get behind the wheel and experience it !
which experience you want to do first. You can be the bad guy car, the police car in a chase or pit maneuver. We chose to be the bad guy for our first run. As we waited in line and watched the other drivers go through in front of us we could see all the different cars they had for us to drive. There were a few different generation Ford Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros and one Mercedes for the bad guy cars and Crown Vics for the police cruisers. We ended up in a late 90s Camaro. This thing looked and felt like the kind of car you would see running from the police so you can get right into character. As you sit in the car with your instructor and wait for the radio to go on letting you know your pursuit has started they go over all the road hazards and tips. They have cones out on the course for braking and turning points. It is super helpful especially if you are a beginner when it comes to running from the cops. If you have done it before like I have, maybe you don’t need the cones. (kidding). Once the radio announces that you are on the run, you take off and seconds after they dispatch the police cruiser. Something to keep in mind with this experience is there is NO speed limit. They encourage you to use their cars to the maximum and have some fun. Of course there are a few straight aways that go into turns but I think we were able to hit around 70 mph on some of those and that was plenty. Especially while watching the police cruiser in the rear view mirror. You go through your laps and at the end of it they let you know if you outran the police cruiser or not. Sometimes it is obvious because they catch up to you. They have controlled passes for this, so no, you aren’t out there crashing into each others cars. (They had to draw the line somewhere) After going through the bad guy experience we went back through as the police cruiser. After one lap I missed being the bad guy but it was pretty cool to have the lights and sirens going. Unfortunately the Charger I was chasing
dusted me. The handling on the Crown Vic wasn’t amazing compared to some of the bad guy cars but I would definitely go through both experiences if I were you. We ended the day by going through the Pit Maneuver experience. You pretty much jump in the car and hold on for the ride. We got pitted a total of 3 times and my head was spinning. It is pretty crazy. It felt nothing like
I thought it would based on how it looks on TV. It was actually a really smooth and swift action that had a weird peaceful art to it. That only lasts for a second or two though and then you are spinning off into a cloud of your own tire smoke. Thanks to Police Chase LV for having us out at their grand opening. Life In The Fast Lane WORDS Clinton Rowley
Have you ever been stuck behind that car in the far left lane that just doesn’t want to follow the flow of traffic? Obviously the majority of us have, and if I’m being honest, it frustrates the hell out of me. In order to deter that the state of Nevada recently passed a law making it illegal to drive slower than the speed limit in the fast lane. This was put into effect in 2017 and frequently I still see slow moving lunatics cruising in the left lane. This just feels like a band-aid solution for a bigger problem. During the oil shortages in the 70’s Congress put into action the nationwide maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hour. If you have ever noticed in older American cars the 55mph on the speedometer is orange and pondered the reason, well this is it. This was put in place to reduce fuel consumption and keep the roads safer. Instead people disobeyed the laws and drove at a comfortable rate and probably got a speeding ticket or two. In 1995 however, that law was repealed making roads safer because those of us
who follow the law to the letter traveled faster, and it kept the flow of traffic up. Since the oil shortage cars had improved greatly as far as safety and fuel consumption is concerned. All that makes vehicles capable of handling higher speeds and spewing less fumes into the environment. This leads to my main point, its been well over 20 years since the repeal and speed limits are the same, but our rides and road conditions have gotten so much better. With crumple zones now a thing and seeing Teslas everywhere you go, safety standards and fuel consumption are the best they have ever been and will continue to improve. Why not raise the speed limit? Studies by the Federal Highway Administration and many other organizations show that if only 1 out of 7 cars is following the speed limit, it should be increased. This would lead to more comfortable driving, reduced traffic at peak hours, no more brake tapping when you see 5-0 just ahead, and less traffic violations increasing happiness among citizens.
A few states have tried to raise the highway speed limit, while voters overwhelmingly vote yes, it is usually shot down by lawmakers. Now I am in no way condoning speeding at all, so don’t go blowing the speed limit and say I told you to. But maybe one day we can be like Germany and have an Autobahn with no speed limit in rural areas, or maybe that’s my lead foot talking.

Ferrari F430

This is not a show car, no we don't mean it's not nice, we mean it gets DRIVEN.
So
we’ve known about this car for a bit having seen it in various states of being built. Greg Bell’s 2005 Ferrari F430 was silently being put together piece by piece by Rudy over at After Dark Kreations. After impatiently waiting to put it in an issue it’s finally here. We drove up to the the frigid backside of Mt. Charleston to get a shoot location that would be as stunning as this ride. A Ferrari is a Ferrari, but with everything done to it, this one is definitely special. Roughly a year ago Greg decided he wanted to get himself an F430. He hopped in his Bentley GTC and toured the southwest in search of a good deal. From Vegas to Arizona then up to San Fransisco and finally Los Angeles all in one weekend. But alas no Ferrari was purchased, he just didn’t find the deal he was looking for. After all that gas and miles spent he gave up on the search. A while later though a friend in Florida contacted Greg about selling his, it was in great shape and within Greg’s budget. He didn’t
hesitate to jump on the deal and here we are. He spared no expense when it came to modding this car and the laundry list of parts is proof. For suspension he is cruising on an Air Lift 3P system that just so happens to be his favorite part of the car. This gives him enough low to keep the car looking good but also the ability to drive it with worrying about cracking fiberglass. The air struts are one off custom built by ADK. Filling up the bags is a carbon fiber tank with lines that were clearly meticulously installed. Matching billet and carbon fiber Flo compressors round off his air set up. For his wheels he is rolling on gorgeous 20in RVL center lock Joys wheels, with brushed bronze spokes and a brushed silver lip. Wrapped in some fat Toyo T1 Sports to keep it stuck to the ground. In order to stop this quick pony you need some brakes that mean business, and his bright yellow 380mm six piston Brembo GT’s do just that. On the outside he has a Scuderia front bumper, and carbon fiber mirrors, door handles, rear diffuser,

and custom spoiler also made by ADK. Inside is even more carbon fiber including the steering wheel, door pulls, door handles, and shifter paddles. Keeping him comfy is a pair of Cobra Misano leather and carbon seats. In the entertainment department he has JL Audio speakers all around and JL Audio subs, plus a Joying Audio stereo to interact with. The 4.3L V8 from the factory is already fast, as Enzo Ferrari once said “When you buy a Ferrari you pay for the engine, and I will give the rest of the car free.” Even then no car guy could let it stay that way, Greg added Soul Performance headers, a Gruppe M air box, Fabspeed highflow cats, and a Capristo exhaust for a nice boost in power. Yes this car is pretty, but that isn’t the only thing going for it. We love how modified it is and how unafraid he is to actually use it. He says that it is not a show car, driving it up and down the strip, the gym, grocery store, even across state lines. Greg loves showing off his ride and I can’t blame him. We asked him what his favorite thing to do in his car was and he said “My favorite thing to do with it is to let people who have not had the opportunity to get close to an exotic car, get in and take a picture. I don’t mind taking time out of my day to put a smile on someone's face.” That is the kind of positivity every car scene needs and we are glad Greg is spreading the love.

T
he first O’Reilly Auto Parts Midnight Mayhem was on Friday, January 18th. Although the first one was on a Friday night like they normally are, LVMS has made a scheduling change and 7 of the 12 Midnight Mayhem sessions will be moved from Fridays to Wednesdays in 2019. Midnight Mayhem is returning to its roots and only allowing street legal vehicles with treaded tires at the 12 sessions. High performance vehicles equipped with racing slicks will be able to run at the 8 Friday Open Test N Tune sessions that have been added to the calendar. If you are looking for more clarification visit the LVMS website and check out the Midnight Mayhem section. If you have somehow not heard of this event, it is basically a night filled with street legal drag racing at The Strip Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This event is a safe alternative to illegal street racing. The speedway staff encourages enthusiasts to race each other on the safe confines of its NHRA sanctioned, quarter mile drag strip. The event is opened to all licensed and registered street legal vehicles. The fees are pretty affordable and worth it. Keep in mind if you plan on attending to run your car there are some rules to follow. You can find the full list on the LVMS website. This was our second time attending Midnight Mayhem as media and being able to get down close to the action. As usual, there are cars and trucks of all types and drivers of all levels. The night started around 6pm when the first set of cars start running down the track. We walked up right at 6pm and we could already see tire smoke and hear engines roaring. One of the best things about being in this environment is the fact that everyone there is there to have fun and throw down some track times. From the shop built street race cars, to the weekend warriors, everyone is out there for a good time. There is no professional big rig pits setup just a bunch of people with passion looking for that thrill of flying down the track. As a matter of fact, I have never ran my truck before because it was not really built to go fast, but seeing a few people out there enjoying themselves in their trucks makes me want to run it this year just for the fun of it. I have never ran any vehicle on a drag strip and I feel like it will be worth it to put that memory under my belt. What do you think?

verything about James Bozarth’s 2006 Ford Mustang screams drift. From the screamer pipes, and crazy turn angle, to the gutted interior. It is purpose built and that purpose is to destroy tires and have fun doing it. James is a 22 year old F-15 mechanic who grew up in a military family. His father had plenty of vehicles around and would frequently take James to NHRA, Supercross, and Monsterjam. While in the military James spent 3 years in Japan but the majority of his life has been in Corona, California. His father always had mustangs around, making him want one of his own, his friends all drove cars and it convinced James to get rid of his old truck and pick up his current project. Purchased from a used dealership in Southern California in late 2015, it has come a long way from the bone-stock condition he got it in. James didn’t have much inspiration from other rides for his own, since there aren’t many other drift mustangs. He just wanted something different from everyone else, and by getting help and tips from the few other drift mustang owners he turned his ideas into reality.
BC Racing Coilovers make the camber possible, and a Driftknuckles angle kit keep that turn radius nice and tight. Sitting on discontinued American Racing Wheels wrapped in whatever wheels he can get, since you know, the car is made to wear out tires. The entire interior is gutted save for one NRG seat and an unbranded seat on the passenger side. Crow racing harnesses keep him snug in the seat as he goes sideways, and a Twisted Images hydro E-brake to keep the fun going. Bunch of other mods fill out the rest of the car including a custom bash bar, Smokesignals dual drift caliper bracket, Alloy USA axles, Powerstock Z23 brakes, and a handful of other small things. As far as the engine goes its a 4.6 V8 pumping out 520HP and 460TQ, there is heaps more power available but he is limited by his fuel pump. Equipped with a Holley sniper EFI intake manifold and Frpp 80lb injectors, making his Cxracing 67mm Turbo spool up in no time. This thing is no slouch and has plenty of room to grow. Build cost is in the neighborhood of 10k not including the car itself, it costs money to have fun. James says the biggest mishap while building the ride was tagging a curb while drifting and bending his axle and a busted wheel. When we asked James what his favorite thing to do is he said, “Cruises with the boys when I get to go back home, it’s the little things that matter.” You can catch him in Chinatown grubbing on some Japanese food, or hitting secluded street spots to have a little fun. For some legal and approved drifting James likes to head to Grange and Adams Motorsports Park in California.
Currently James’ only goal is to not blow his engine, and slide The Boostang as much as possible. Next up for his ride is to beef up the bottom end, full cage, custom quarter panels, and a dope paint job/livery. Watch out for this guy whether he’s working on jets or mustangs James likes things that go fast.
