A New Home Base for the Medical School The building is designed by I. M. Pei’s internationally acclaimed architectural firm, Pei Cobb Freed, known for such projects as the East Wing of the National Gallery, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Louvre Pyramid.

The new education building will be located at the functional center of the MCV Campus, near to both the historic Egyptian building as well as clinical facilities. Its 200,000 square feet will be dedicated to education, simulation and research. Group rooms seating 10-20 students (pictured at left) will provide space for small group work, presentations, student meetings and study sessions. Four learning studios (shown below) will have wall-sized white boards, screens and projectors for cooperative work. Located on floors five through eight, the studios each have retractable walls so that they can be divided into two.
