2 cultural events set for Sept. 29, 30
Groups across the city are gearing up for two major events next week celebrating arts, culture and history. Doors Open Vaughan and Culture Days run concurrently over two days —Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 – at numerous locations across the city. Doors Open allows you to get a free peek inside 11 sites specially selected for their historical, architectural, cultural and/or environmental significance. Among this year’s sites are J.E.H MacDonald House, Kipling Gallery, the Kortright Centre for Conservation, Magnotta Winery and several others. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. Culture Days is part of a nationwide event that aims to showcase arts and culture in communities across Canada. In Vaughan there are more than 30 free activities, many of them interactive, taking place as part of the event You’ll have the chance to participate in several art workshops as well as check out photography exhibits, children’s theatre, Latin dance performances, South Asian celebrations and much more. Culture Days events run at 20 locations spread out across the city from Kleinburg to Thornhill at various times. In 2011, the second annual Culture Days event took place in more than 800 cities and towns, with attendance topping 1.2 million.
