With his rich K e n y a n h e r i t a g e , David was very active in c a m p u s multicultural o rg anizations.

One of my favorite memories of David when he joined me, my brother, and my roommate on a trip to South Bend, IN to attend a Notre Dame football game. This was the last game of the season, which took place in November. T h e previous evening, the South Bend area received over three feet of snow. With David being from Kenya, lengthy exposure to the cold and snow do not mix well with him. Upon arrival at my home prior to the game, David proceeded to put on two sweatshirts, two winter coats, two winter hats, two pairs of gloves, a scarf, and a blanket (see picture). This moment almost exactly resembled the Jamaican Bobsled team in the movie "Cool Runnings". Even those nine layers did not keep David warm enough. Once we were at the game, I continually made runs to the concession stand to fetch him hot chocolate. "Fujiwawawa. .1 am from Kenya, it never gets below 80 there- I'm freeeezin'. Go get me some hot chocolate!" T h e entire time David was taking it all in, the game, the fans, the weather, and of course the planes overhead- but he was doing it all with that famous smile of his. He loved everything he did. He went into each day with a purpose and a passion. He loved sports; he loved his friends; and he surely loved his food, but most of all David loved his God. He made a tremendous impact on my life for the short year and a half we shared together, and for that I am so very grateful. I will miss him walking past me every day with that bright smile, greeting me with "Oli otia, Ssebo!" I can't wait for the day we will meet again, fl by doug fujawa
