Within the last week there has again occurred t h a t most, despicable thing which has an annual event for the last three , years, nanysly—the stacking oi an Instructor's room,—a s t u n t pulled oft" not by a few Hope College students, b u t by a few cowardly cads, who are for the time being attending this institution. T h o u g h e x a m i n a t i o n s in t h i s contest have been held in only a few institutions this was due to the desire to have practical proof of the plan b e f o r e giving it g,e.it r a l a p plication. " T h i s contest, a s Professor Mu'iro of H a r v a r d h a s pointed out is ct benelit not only to t h e s t u d e n t s of l i u i i t u tiomi but also to t h e college world as a whole, since it f u r n i s h e s a n intercollegiate competition in the Held of t h e intellect. E x c e p t f o r debates, the t e a m p r e p a r a t i o n for which is generally so t h o r o u g h l y planned under c o a c h i n g a s to give individual dehatopg little f r e e d o m , t h e r e Is almost no intercollegiate contest except in a t h l e tics. Moreover, a s Professor Munro f u r t h e r suggested, a s d i f f e r e n t m e t h ods of e x a m i n a t i o n are employed, t h e r e is a new o p p o r t u n i t y for comp a r i n g them a n d so, possibly, of m a k i ig a real c o n t r i b u t i o n "to the g e n e r a l I m p r o v e m e n t of o u r whole educational s> i t e m .
