Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society • PROFILE provides help and support with personal care and assistance with tasks and activities associated with daily living.

THE ABBEYFIELD Wey Valley Society a registered charity, with over 30 years’ experience as one of Surrey’s leading providers of sheltered, residential and nursing care across Farnham, Guildford and Haslemere. They pride themselves on providing secure, relaxed, homely environments within their six homes at a cost price with a small surplus to reinvest into care services for older people. They offer appropriate levels of care and support to preserve the privacy, dignity and independence of every person they look after and each resident is treated individually with their care being centred around their needs and choices. Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society also provides a home care service in the Farnham area, aiming to provide a person-centred service tailored to individual requirements, personal choices and wishes. It

There are daily activities within the homes which cover a wide range of interests. There are regular exercise classes from Pilates, chair-based exercises and Tai Chi, also musicbased afternoons including music for health, music therapy and a dementia based singing afternoon once a week run by some of the society's volunteers. They enjoy arts and crafts, and one special craft so far this year was decorating their otter for The Otter Wey Trail, situated in Wey Valley House’s garden at the moment. The society likes to get involved within the local community by running stalls at local events; entering the Farnham Carnival (best in show last year, see left). They also have students from Farnham College who come and volunteer within the homes assisting with outings, one-to-one chats and other day-to-day activities. The society also provides volunteer hours for students doing the Duke of Edinburgh award from Weydon School. Abbeyfield has an active team of volunteers who bring a special touch to all the homes, helping them to stay connected with the local community. These valued volunteers befriend residents and help with activities such as trips to local places of interest, shopping, arts and crafts, games, serving tea and coffee and gardening with residents. The residents enjoy regular outings which would not be possible if it were not for the volunteers providing transport and/or giving up their time to accompany the residents. There are weekly outings available over the summer months including trips to places such as; Windsor Castle, Squires Garden Centre, canal boat trips down the Basingstoke Canal, Painshill Park, Denbies Wine estate, Marwell Zoo, Ramster Gardens, Bombay Sapphire, Wisley Gardens and Southsea.
