1) saloon GL & GT models require rear coil-spring part no. 39108 standard or 39046 heavy-duty. Note ! The design of the front coil-spring on certain Passat 312 models was revised halfway through the vehicle's production life, the change taking place in 08.92 at the chassis-no. indicated below. Improved steering response at low speeds was the result of this revision. Later vehicles use a smaller upper spring seat than earlier models. As a consequence, springs for earlier vehicles are not interchangeable with springs for later vehicles. 2.8 L VR6 models were fitted with the smaller upper spring seat and corresponding small pigtail spring from the start of production.
