Excitement as ANAMMCO bounces back By FRANCIS IGATA

E

NUGU—RESIDENTS of Enugu and its environs are excited as the Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company, ANAMMCO has resumed operations. Speaking on the official rollout of SHACMAC Trucks from the company, the state Governor Sullivan Chime had expressed satisfaction that the enabling environment provided by his administration for the industrial development of the state and the attraction of both indigenous and foreign investments, were yielding remarkable results. Chime who was represented on the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Amaechi Okolo added that his administration had invested massively on infrastructural development as well as security to enable businesses to thrive in the state saying that the revitalization of ANAMMCO after many years of inactivity was a product of the initiatives. He also commended the Federal Government for granting the state a free trade zone and putting in place, both an international airport and rail lines in Enugu, thereby enhancing the C M Y K

development of the state. Chime further commended the Transit Support Services for partnering ANAMMCO to invest in the state and called on the people of the area to patronise the business.

In a brief remark the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who was represented by his Deputy, Nkem Okeke noted that the roll-out of SHACMAC trucks would revive the hitherto

moribund ANAMMCO, adding that it would offer employment to the people of the area. In a keynote address, the President, Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, MAN,

Mr. Frank Udemba Jacobs noted that the roll-out of the trucks would ensure the employment of over 1,500 Nigerians. Jacobs further said that the initiative was a positive sign that manufacturing company which had folded due to unfriendly operating environment and support from government could be revived. According to him, the project was proof of the fact that the manufacturing sector could improve through public private sector partnership. Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of ANAMMCO, Sir G.U. Okeke said that Nigeria was highly ranked in all indices considered necessary for an automotive industry to flourish. He added that automotive industry was the key for economic transformation because of its potentials to contribute to the growth of GDP, build human capital through the acquisition of technology and development with growth of small, medium and micro enterprises. According to Okeke, the automotive industry was capable of employing 770,000 people directly and indirectly from feeder industries. In his own message, the Chairman Transit Support Services, Mr. Frank Nneji said that if the country’s auto mobile policy if achieved would provide massive jobs for the unemployed youths and commended the Enugu State government for making the state industry friendly. The Managing Director of SHACMAN, Mr. Wang Gang in his speech observed that the roll-out of SHACMAN trucks would help in the development of the country’s economy and create employment.

Ezeship crisis in Orsuihiteukwu deepens By CHINONSO ALOZIE

WERRI—CRISIS is brewing in Orsuihiteukwu, Orsu Local Government Area in Orlu zone, Imo State over which of the clans would produce the traditional ruler following the death of the former occupant of the throne, His Royal Highness, Eze P.N.C Ezeani last year. As a result of the development, the community has continued to face the challenges of embarking on communal projects. The crises began when some people insisted that the throne was hereditary while others said that the position was rotational. Speaking to South East Voice in Owerri, after their protest at the Government House, Mr. Okeke Lasbrey

said that they were at the seat of power to plead with Governor Rochas Okorocha, to intercede on the matter, so that peace would prevail in the community. He said that the misunderstanding following the leadership tussle had generated bad blood among the people, adding that if not addressed, the matter would escalate to a dangerous dimension, thus impacting on the community negatively. Okeke who is the president general of the community explained that the throne was based on rotation among five villages in the community; Etiti, Okuru, Uda Amihie and Ihiteukwu stressing that it was the turn of Uda to occupy the throne. He, however, accused one Dr. Dan Ezeani, who he said

stopped for peace to rein in the area.
