000 users from 14 different countries will be given the opportunity to test-drive the LG G4 several weeks before the official release into the market. LG says that feedback from these

users will help LG iron out any difficulties with the G4 before it hits the market. Commenting on the G4, General Manger, Mobile Communications, LG Electronics West Africa Operations, Mr. Steve Seungeui Lee said that “the G4 was designed to tackle two

polar issues in the consumer base. It should be easy enough for anyone to use, yet still pack the enhanced features that techintensive users are after. In the design process the look and feel were not engineered simply to grab headlines, but the philosophy behind the G4 was to accentuate the lifestyle of the user from the viewpoint that the smartphone is an extension of the self. The G4 represents a milestone-level achievement, with advanced technology powering the screen and camera, and an updated UX that is as convenient as it is functional.” More than any other component, the screen is the first

SOCIETY & SOCIAL MEDIA By Agbolade Omowole @iamagbolade

7 ways SMEs can use Social Media to attract new customers

S

mall and Medium Scale Enterprises, SMEs, are the fuel that drive the engine of every developed econmy all over the world. As Nigerians look forward to a new government, I believe that entrepreneurs must position themselves to increase monthly turn over and engender exponential cash flow by leveraging on social media. Here are seven things to do to take your business to the next level. Start with the end on mind: I have seen companies who are using social media just because it is the rave of the moment. Most times, they don’t achieve as much as those who use social media with a clear-cut vision. When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. Multiply your results: Understand that social media provides exponential results. Try to monitor the result you get on each platform. Once you stumble on a magic formular, use more of it with some innovation. Learn how to engage people on Facebook. Facebook now has about 1.2 billion users. Researchers have revealed that for every 7 minute people spend on the internet, a minute is spent on Facebook alone. Sharing a status update, tagging friends and fans in a photo and commenting on posts goes viral easily if done properly.

Take it slow: Nothing happens overnight. It takes time to develop relationships and establish credibility with your brand and your target audience. Over time, events and a steady pace will win out. Rushing leads to mistakes. Be flexible: Circumstances change, not every strategy works, and you need to also be willing to recognize that it is time to try something new. Don’t stick to a strategy that is not working for you. Hang on: Purchase decisions are made from the subconscious mind. You must master the art of marketing - use pictures, beautiful words, and recommendations from satisfied customers. Experts say people need to hear your message 27 times before making a purchase decision. Don’t bore your Fans. Balance is important in everything. While you have to keep being in the eyes of your customers, be careful. Draw the line between being persistent and being forceful. You will always know when people are getting bored. People will let you know in their comments and all that. Be persistent in implementing your plan and in monitoring whether you’re reaching the objectives that will take you to your goal. Combine your methods: The last thing you should do to leverage on social media is to use all the aforementioned methods.

thing most consumers notice when evaluating smart phones. Although the G3 won praise last year for its impressive quad HD display, the G4’s screen features a vastly improved 5.5-inch QHD LCD screen, represents a quantum jump in brightness, color gamut, contrast ratio, touch input responsiveness and power consumption, all packed into a display that is slimmer than ever before. Its QHD screen boasts a 2560x1440 pixel resolution of 4 times higher than the LCD standard of 1280x720. More accurate colors are also made possible by the display’s 120 percent color gamut. The QHD display’s contrast ratio is 50 percent higher than conventional QHD LCD panels and its brightness is 30 percent higher. In spite of its performance statistics, there is no surge in power consumption, meaning

that the G4’s battery will prove long-lasting even under the most intense use. All these specs come together to create deeper blacks, brighter colors and much sharper images. The display can even be viewed in direct sunlight as the brightness counteracts any glare. The G4's most impressive feature is its ability to take accurate lowlight shots, even in poorly-lit city environments. The device boasts an impressive F/ 1.8 aperture, meaning the lens can take in more light than any competing device. Users from across the market have repeatedly indicated their preference for smartphones with higher quality screens. Because top of the line HD displays are more expensive, the ability to deliver the very best in display technology has helped larger manufacturers maintain their competitive edge.

Globacom nears 30m subscriber base By Emmanuel Elebeke

T

elecommunications company, Globacom, has said that almost 30 million subscribers across Nigeria are now on its network. National Sales Coordinator of Globacom for North West Operations, Samuel Edoho disclosed last weekend in Abuja at an award ceremony where the company was recognized as the network provider of the year 2014 by the Independent Newspaper Limited. He said the company achieved the feat due to the company’s consistent investment and deployment of innovative and customer oriented services for its teaming subscribers. Edoho said the company, with close to 30 million subscribers in its network, plans to soar towards its aspiration of building Africa’s biggest and best telecommunications network in the continent. With this latest record, Globacom still retains its number two spot, with MTN Nigeria at number one. As at the last review, MTN Nigeria stood at 59,893,093 subscriber base, Globacom 28,219,089; Airtel Nigeria – 27,556,544; Etisalat Nigeria stood at 21,103,745 while Mtel came last with 258,520 subscriber base.

“We are still very aggressive, we will keep the spirit high and assure Nigerians who have no confidence in the market of our determination to offer them best experience ever across all networks “For us, this is a testimony to the innovation the company has brought and we will want to dedicate this award to our teaming subscribers because it is because of that we can be recognized and we will like to let our subscribers know that the network that brought per second billing is still in the fore front of bringing new things. “As we speak now, we have got 200 per cent incentives for all subscribers in our network. Our capacity is immense. With Glo 1, we have the potential to deliver fast internet service,” said Edoho. On poor quality of service, Edoho said, “we are doing our best to meet the needs of our teaming subscribers. If we are not doing well, we will not have customers, our customers have stood by us and what Daily Independence are doing today is a testimony to the fact that Globacom is delivering quality service on day to day basis. “We hope to bring more innovations on board, give better services and make everything better. There are a lot of challenges but we are coping.”
