BUJA—ASSOCIATION of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, has given onemonth ultimatum to the management of Mainstreet Bank Ltd, to settle the entitlements of its sacked workers, warning that failure to do so would attract the wrath of the association. Federal Government, through the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in August 5, 2011, had nationalised Afribank Nigeria Plc, Bank PHB and Spring Bank Plc and subsequently set up three bridge banks, Mainstreet Bank, Keystone Bank and Enterprise Bank with all assets and certain liabilities duly transferred to the new banks, respectively. ASSBIFI, in a statement issued in Abuja, weekend, claimed as the newly set up banks were harmonising and consolidating their functions, the management of Mainstreet Bank rationalised some of its senior members without following the due process as set out by the industrywide Collective Agreement.

BADAN—SOUTH-WEST zone of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, weekend, dismissed growing insinuations of feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, saying the rumoured misunderstanding between the duo was a mere ruse. PDP South-West, in a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Waheed Lawal, said: “The alleged feud between Tukur and Obasanjo is a figment of people’s imagination. "We visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo before the town hall meeting held with the national chairman of the party in Ibadan. “Obasanjo welcomed us and provided us dinner. It was after this that we planned the zonal meeting. The notification that we gave for the meeting was three days.” He maintained that the meeting was fixed for Ibadan and not Obasanjo’s residence because some members might not find it convenient.

The party said: “Obasanjo hardly attends meetings of such nature as a result of his tight schedule and international engagements. We used to hold such meetings in his house. But

this time, we wanted to bring everybody together so that some would not say that they could not come. “We can give those who did not attend benefit of the

doubt. Perhaps, the notice was too short, perhaps, they had other engagements. It is a continuous process. People that were hitherto not been talking are now coming

EDERAL Government and workers in Federal hospitals and other institutions have resolved the protracted industrial disputes between the workers and government, thereby averting the sector’s looming industrial unrest. Five unions in the health sector, operating under Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, on March 18, issued a 15-day ultimatum to Federal Government over non-implementation of May 10, 2012 Collective Agreement, among others. However, at a meeting called by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr. Emeka Wogu, and attended by officials of the

Federal Ministry of Health, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, and JOHESU, agreement was reached. According to the agreement, “on non-implementation of May 10, 2012 Collective Agreement, the meeting noted that JOHESU had declared a nine-point trade dispute. “Four of the points in dispute were referred to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, NICN, while the remaining were to be implemented by the Federal Ministry of Health. “It was noted that while NICN had accorded due diligence and importance to the case by constituting a three-man panel, the Federal Ministry of Health Legal representatives were not keeping up with the expectation of JOHESU on the speedy prosecution of the case."
