Watch what you say, Osanebi cautions politicians
T
HE member representing Ndokwa East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Friday Osanebi, has advised politicians to desist from making inflammatory comments capable of jeopardizing smooth and acceptable general elections. Osanebi, who spoke in Beneku during the distribution of cars, motorcycles, hair dressing machines and other items to people of his constituency as part of his empowerment programmes, said such statements could over heat the polity and create avoidable tension. He also reminded politicians that their individual ambitions are subordinate to national interest. He said: “Nigeria must exist as a nation first, before we could pursue our individual ambitions.” He, therefore, advised those fanning the embers of war and disunity to have a rethink, saying “we have more to gain by staying united.” He reiterated that politics was a call for service and not a platform to cause disaffection among citizens. According to Osanebi, election is not a do-or-die affair and “ we should know that only one political seat could be vacant at a time.” He posited that governance was a collective responsibility between the governed and the government.

Anambra, UN set up recycling plant A NAMBRA State Government and United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, have jointly set up a compost and recycling plant for the treatment of household waste and other plastic materials. The materials are converted into organic manure and useful materials that will ultimately create viable options for waste-to-wealth ventures in the state. The composite recycling plant, which was commissioned early in the week by Governor Willie Obiano, was initiated in 2011 following the selection of Anambra and Kano states for the pilot study, but it was not until 2014 that work commenced on the Anambra project. Speaking during the flagoff, Governor Obiano said the
plant would convert waste to wealth, pointing out that the project would be replicated in all the local government areas and major cities of the state. According to the governor, “this initiative is one way of ensuring that we live in a clean and healthy environment.” The Commissioner for Environment, Chief Evarist

Why Jonathan deserves South-West votes— IJAW GROUP
T
HE Friends of Oronto Douglas support Group for Jonathan in South-West has described the geopolitical zone as a dependable ally since independence. In a release by its Coordinator, Miss Linda Oyawerikumo in Lagos, the group said South-West benefited from South-South’s cooperation during former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's era. It said: “The Goodluck Jonathan Presidency was the fulfilment of the vision of late Obafemi Awolowo that one day an Ijaw man will lead this country. This was confirmed to this nation by Chief Ebenezer Babatope, one of Awolowo’s disciples during his lecture last year in Yenagoa to mark the creation of the state.
Uba, said the state provided land for the project, while UNDP built the structure and provided the equipment. Earlier, Managing Director of ASWAMA, Mr. Phil Chinwuba, said the plant was community-based and would serve about 300 households and can employ 25 workers.
“South-South was one of the leading lights that fought against the annulment of June 12. Many of our leaders like Frank Kokori, Dr. Agamene and Oronto Douglas fought against the June 12 injustice even at the risk of their lives. “We know the progressives are with us in this struggle to vote the South-South for another four years.” The group assured that in the next four years, President Jonathan would give equal treatment to all zones. “The achievements of the President in the last four years are abvious and with the security situation in check, the economy will improve and job creation for youths will be the priority of the government in the next four years.”
Okobah spoke when he led members of Equity and Justice Group on a courtesy visit to Tijile at his Obiaruku residence. Okobah, national leader of the group, commended Chief Tilije for the courage to dump APC, saying campaign strategy aimed at drumming support for the candidature of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and other PDP candidates in the general elections was in place. He urged Tilije to mobilize his supporters across the state to vote massively for PDP, saying his defection was a sign that victory was assured for PDP In his remarks, Chief Tilije said his decision to dump APC was informed by his personal conviction that PDP remained the only party on ground, saying the rising profile of the candidate of PDP was a clear indication that majority of Deltans were in support of his candidature. Earlier on arrival at Obiaruku, members of Equity and Justice carried out door-to-door campaign along major streets and motor parks in the area, where they called on eligible voters to obtain their permanent voter's cards, PVCs, to enable them exercise their franchise.
