COUNTRY BEAR JAMBOREE & SPLASH MOUNTAIN
WALT DISNEY’S DISNEYLAND
The “Country Bear Jamboree” attraction opened at Walt Disney World in 1971. Its immediate popularity led to the opening of the attraction in Disneyland the following year in the new area titled “Bear Country”, which had formerly been the location of the “Indian Village”. By 1988, excitement and guest traffic in the area had waned, and “Bear Country” was renamed “Critter Country”, with the new “Splash Mountain” attraction set to open the following year. The hope was that “Splash Mountain” would be able to reinvigorate public interest in that section of the park. “Splash Mountain” was a huge success and helped bring new life to the area, despite going over-budget and requiring the re-use of some animatronics from the “America Sings” attraction. Its interesting cast of characters and catchy songs has made “Critter Country” a very whimsical and unique location of the park, with its original souvenirs and artifacts often being very fun and character-driven.
482. Original “Country Bear Jamboree” Attraction Poster. (Disneyland, 1972) An original lithographic poster for the “Country Bear Jamboree” attraction. A few variants of this poster exist with different wording at the bottom, depending on when the posters were created. When the attraction opened in Walt Disney World in 1971, their version of the poster simply read “Walt Disney World”. The following year, the attraction opened at Disneyland and the posters were redesigned to read “Disneyland & Walt Disney World” so that they could be used for both parks. An additional variant read “Bear Country” to advertise for the newly created area of Disneyland, and was only used at that park for a short while. This version, designed by Jim Michaelson, Marc Davis, and Eddie Martinez, was used at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This item measures 54”x37” and is in good condition with some creasing throughout and some edge-wear including pinholes in the corners from previous display. $500-$1,000 146
