88. “Ferdinand the Bull” Matador Figure by Zaccagnini. (Zaccagnini, c.1947) An extremely rare and beautifully painted ceramic figurine of the Matador from “Ferdinand the Bull”. This figure was created by the Italian pottery maker Zaccagnini. The Matador was a caricature of Walt Disney and Walt’s likeness has been captured perfectly in this figure. Known for high quality ceramics and for attention to detail, Zaccagnini signed a contract with Disney in 1947 which lasted for approximately ten years. The company produced some of the finest Disney figurines to date, and this particular figurine is among the most striking and sought-after. The figurine measures 5.5”x8.5” and 10.25” tall and, aside from a couple minor nicks in the paint, the piece as a whole is in very fine condition and still retains its original glossy finish. All the Disney pieces from this maker are rare and this figurine is only the second that we have ever seen offered for public sale. $3,000-$5,000
