SOCIETE GENERALE VALLEY RFC Valley RFC v Kowloon RFC Kings Park 1930

13th October 2023

RACING SEASON IN PROGRESS

A couple of “first of the season” games for our teams this weekend, as the Valley Griffins Mai Jais take on Police RFC and the Valley Reds play Tigers up at Kings Park - both teams feature a number of players who have joined Valley

this

season

from

various

summer

recruitment courses. The Valley Mavericks frustratingly begin their season with a bye - adding another week on to their preseason training plans. Playing in the mens Championship league, the Mavericks are in for an exciting season with some new look teams in the likes of Shenzhen Pirates and a University/Typhoons team who have combined forces to play as one. The Womens Premiership still continue with their preseason plans, as their league begins on the 21st October. Delayed due to Hong Kong Womens National commitments. The Mens Premiership league heads into week 2 of fixtures this week, with our Mens team looking to avenge their loss against HKFC last weekend.

ROUND 1 V HKFC

WRAP UP Loss 29 - 8

The team faced a tough opening game of the season, coming down on the wrong side of the stick against HKFC. Unfortunately the loss of our key fly half Laurence May, with a season ending injury 10 days before the opening game, was felt. However in true Valley spirit, the team fronted up and gave it their all which was asked of them on the day. Nyasha

Tarusenga

had

a

massive

game

leading the forward pack with his stronghold presence. Together with Andrew Farley and Elden Schoeman, ever so reliable and safe at the back. Nick Brown came on with the desired impact off the bench and collected the first try of the season. The side also debuted a number of new players wearing the Red and Black, in the likes of Alistair Stacey, Huw Alexander, Justin Beese, Dylan Schoeman and Toby Jurecka. The team need to iron out simple errors and protect the ball in contact more, all fixable - now just putting it all into action against Kowloon. With the input of seasoned veteran, Ben Rimene starting at 10, a cool calm collected presence will be felt on the pitch.
