Memorable moments

The Silver Jubilee celebration of Vadapalani Times was a memorable occasion not only for the young artistes but also for the rasikas who gathered in hundreds. The festivities were held at Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Matam, West Mambalam on last Sunday. Anandnarayanan, programme executive of D D P o t h i g a i , Chandrasekar, managing director of Kasi Viswanathar Temple and R Balasubramanian, director of IOB Staff Co-operative Credit Society graced the occasion. Anandnarayanan, chief guest of the programme congratulated Vadapalani Times for their novel and innovative way of promoting talent in the field of art and culture. He asked the budding artistes to have positive thinking to reach great heights.

He shared his experiences with the audience and also enthralled the audience with his multi-faceted talents. He mentioned that it is very tough to impart training to children especially in the tradition and cultural heritage. He appreciated Smt. LalithSubramanian, Director of Rasikapriya for her dedication in giving training to kids in music and veena. He also stressed the need for laughter therapy and breathing therapy. Sri Chandrasekar appreciated the selfless, committed and noncommercial attitude of the n e i g h b o u r h o o d newspaper, Vadapalni Times. He said that he hopes and wish that the children, who participated in last 24 weeks of the Music Festival would become

Kalaimamanis and Sangeetha Kalalnidhis in the future. He said that Mr.Vijayakumar, Editor of Vadapalani Times has reached great heights within a short period of time due to his hard work and futuristic thinking. Sri.Balasubramanian, told that the circulation of Vadapalani Times is a testimony to its standard and readers from more than 25 countries are reading the newspaper's web edition. Mr.Vijayakumar honoured the guests and the staff of Vadapalani Times. The dignitaries honoured the participants of the previous 24 weeks with shawl, memento and certificates and it was indeed a sight to behold. Vocalists Sree Chitra and Uttira were selected as the best singers of the Music Festival and were given appreciation certificates.

Cultural fiesta The programme was followed by a cultural fiesta in which students of Rasigapriya participated. 20 students performed Aalaya Darshan, an innovative thematic presentation in the first part, which was very informative. 17 students performed vocal concert in the second part of the cultural programme. Amrutharaj on keyboard and Thirucheyyar Kousik Rajagopal on mridangam provided instrumental support to the vocalists. Aalaya Darshan captivates the audience Suhasini and Sowmya were the center of attraction as narrators of the programme- Aalaya Darshan. Children commenced the programme by bowing to their parents and guru and explained how to do darshan in a temple

according to Aagama Siddhantha. They started with the worship of P i l l l a y a r, M u r u g a n , K a r t h i k e y a , Dakshinamoorthy (Guru), Chandikeswar, Nandi, Lord Siva, Ambal and Navagraha Sannidhi and Durgai in Siva temple. The kids highlighted that devotees should have to have the darshan of Perumal Garudan, Sanka Chakram, Lakshmi Thayar, Ramar sannidhi, Krishnar sannidhi and Anjaneyar sannidihi. The details about Sanka chakram, Mahalakshmi Asthoram, Radhe-Krisihna

Sneha, disciple of Lalitha Subramanian was the master of ceremony. In the second part, 17 rendered swaravali to varnam and keerthanam. Thaniavarthanam by Kousik added richness to the programme. Radha sametha Krishna and the concluding pieces Mythrim Bhajathe and Santhi Nilava Vendum were very impressive. Guru Lalitha Subramanian had designed the settings and the backdrop of Siva and Vishnu temples in all its grandeur appealed to the audience. - Sharma (for more pictures : Page 4 - 5)

Guru Poornima celebrations

Though I am taking bittergourd and fenugreek daily, my blood sugar values are not going down Many diabetes patients believe that by consuming bittergourd and fenugreek one can cure diabetes. But the truth is that it will not reduce the blood sugar level. Any bitter substance like fenugreek, bittergourd, tender leaves of neem and aavaram flower will have some effect on diabetes. These bitter tasting substances will reduce blood sugar by 10 to 20gms by stimulating enteroinsular axis. Patients in the pre-diabetes stage may get some benefit with these bitter substances, but once the patient is diagnosed as having full-blown diabetes, all these bitter substances could not be used in treating diabetes and its complications. It's dangerous to depend on these bitter foods alone in the treatment of diabetes. If you are taking those also, one should not stop allopathic medications prescribed by the doctor. Even though my fasting blood sugar is normal, my postprandial blood sugar is always above 200mgs/dl. Abnormal or high postprandial blood sugar 9PPBS) values occur due to the following three reasons: 1. Doing postprandial blood sugar without taking medicines: Some diabetic patients check PPBS without taking the medicines, knowing or unknowingly. Whatever it be it is a wrong method of doing PPBS. One should do postprandial blood sugar test two hours after taking food and the prescribed medicines. 2. Abnormal food intake also show high blood sugar: Some diabetic patients take more quantity of food than a normal day on the day of blood sampling. This is also a wrong method. By doing so, the blood sugar level will show an increase and the doctor will be prompted to increase the dosage of diabetes medicines. 3. Improper drug dosage schedule. Insulin and insulin secreting drugs has to be taken half an hour before food, to have an effect on the postprandial blood sugar level. By addressing the insulin resistance with proper medicines we can reduce postprandial blood sugar levels. By addressing all the above issues it's possible to reduce postprandial blood sugar level. Since the high postprandial blood sugar values are associated with cardiovascular problems postprandial blood sugar value has to be kept with in 140-160 mgs/dl to avoid complications.
