The purpose of the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County is to ensure that all children enter school ready to learn, with the solid foundation to grow and develop. Ready for Learning, Ready for Life is our goal for every child. To fulfill its mission, the Coalition oversees a broad range of services to promote high quality child care and early learning environments and support parents as they nurture the learning potential of their children. The ELC serves over 4000 children and assists over 220 child care providers in Sarasota each year. The Early Learning Coalition works with many community partners such as United Way Success By 6, the Healthy Start Coalition, and the Sarasota Partnership for Children’s Mental Health, to ensure positive outcomes for our community’s young children. Our joint effort to facilitate the Ready, Set, Grow! Infant to Kindergarten Family Fair is one example of our partnership.

The mission of the Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County is to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women, infants and young children. We provide free services for pregnant women and new parents. We have four programs: Healthy Start Direct Services, MomCare, Save My Life and Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Project. The Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County, Healthy Start Direct Services and MomCare all have booths at this year’s fair. The Healthy Start Direct Services Program begins with a simple survey issued to each pregnant woman at her first prenatal visit. Answers on the survey are confidential and will help assess if there is a need for additional services. Healthy Start’s free services include: Home visits, classes or counseling. MomCare is a Medicaid program for pregnant women. MomCare can direct pregnant women how to apply for Pregnancy Medicaid insurance. Once coverage is approved, MomCare Advisors will help pregnant women find a prenatal care provider who takes Pregnancy Medicaid insurance. Pregnant women in MomCare will also learn about local resources to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

United Way Success By 6 (SB6) Initiative builds strong community partnerships, so that children birth to age six will be prepared for kindergarten. As a part of the largest early childhood coalition in the nation, the local SB6 provides: activity filled early learning calendars, crisis preschool scholarships and this fair. The problems facing America’s children are serious and complex, requiring a focus on the underlying causes and strategies that get to the heart of the problem. By improving the way community services are delivered, maximizing resources for young children and families, and creating lasting changes, all children can succeed for life. We hope you and your children have enjoyed the Fair and received a copy of the Ready, Set, Grow! Getting Ready for Kindergarten calendar.

Do you have concerns about your child? As the parent or caregiver, you know your child best. If you feel something is just not right with your child, help is available. The Sarasota Partnership for Children’s Mental Health is a network of community partners, agencies, and families working together to improve services for children and their families. We help families who have a young child (birth through age eight) who are experiencing social, emotional or behavioral challenges. With the help of the Partnership, family members establish their own team of supporters and develop a plan to help their child and family. We help with: · Behavioral and developmental assessments · Counseling · Assistance with child specific therapies · Connecting families with services · Training for families and professionals · Community outreach If you think we can assist your family please call us at (941) 861-1410.
