UWSP Bernie L. Patterson took over as Chancellor at UWStevens Point in July of 2010, becoming the 14th chancellor in the 120 year history of the university. Chancellor Patterson came to UWSP after serving as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Oklahoma City University since 2002.
MISSION STATEMENT
UW-Stevens Point shares in the mission of the University of Wisconsin System. UWSP will open it’s newest residence hall in the fall of 2011. The suite-style dorm will be five stories tall and include 82 suites, room for 328 student beds. U.S. News and World Report places UWSP in the Top Ten Regional Universities in its 2011 rankings. Season Preview
The UW-Stevens Point men’s hockey team finished its historic, unbeaten season last year by winning the NCAA Division III National Championships, the sixth in program history, with a record of 29-0-2. Head coach Tyler Krueger and the team are looking to pick up where they left off and treat every game like a championship. “We have a team that has a lot of experience,” said Krueger. “We want to keep in our minds the things that got us [to the championship], the way we have to do things to make us successful.” UWSP is returning two 2019 All-WIAC first team players in junior Steven Quagliata and senior Luke McElhenie and three 2019 AllWIAC honorable mention selections in senior Drew McLean, and juniors Carter Roo and Zach Zech.
The Pointers will see a new full-time goaltender in 2019-20. Sophomores Eli Billing and Ryan Wagner return and newcomer, freshman Connor Duffy, joins the fray in net. Billing was in between the pipes for the Pointers in five games last year and made 66 saves with a 3-0-1 record. “It seems like another year where we go into the season and that’s our biggest question mark is goaltending,” said Krueger. Returning to UWSP is a strong group of defenders, including seniors Danny Kiraly, Chris Allemon, and McLean, and juniors Wesley Ashley and Quagliata. Also returning to the team and hoping to add to the strong defense is junior Tristan Conrad. Newcomers joining the defensive mix are junior Ryan Orgel, who transferring in from Denver, and freshmen Mikey Butcher and Kellen Tharaldson. Special teams are a continued strength for the Pointers. Last year, the team scored a total of 24 power-play goals. Twelve of those goals came from Quagliata and forward Roo, who each scored six powerplay goals. The Pointers are returning eight of their top nine goal scoring forwards from last season including seniors Brennen Miller and Austin Kelly, and sophomore Jordan Fader. Senior Logan Fredericks is also looking to return to the ice after injuries last season. The Pointers will start the season on Friday (Nov. 1) at home with a game against the preseason No. 4 team, St. Norbert College. The NCAA Championship Banner will be presented prior to the game as well. On Saturday (Nov. 2), the Pointers will head to face St. Norbert in De Pere. Last year, the Pointers and the Green Knights met in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament, where the Pointers won 3-0. “It’s a new year,” said Krueger of the new season, “The record, undefeated thing, if people want to talk about it, that’s fine, but it’s never something we feel is weighing on us. We’re 0-0.”

Working hard in the offseason, the Pointers have been taking steps to fill the spots of the seniors who graduated last year as well as each player becoming a better version of who they were last year. “That’s why our program has been successful is throughout your four years here, I want you to take a step each year and flourish and maximize your potential by the time you graduate,” said Krueger. Moving up to assistant coach is Ethan Strong, who played for the Pointers from 2015-2019 and graduated last year. “I like the connection for him to know the way we do things, The Pointer way, and he’s familiar with the culture and he’s familiar with the guys,” said Krueger. “I think it will be a smooth, easy transition.”
Tyler Krueger Head Coach Third Season Krueger enters his third year as the head coach of the UWSP men’s hockey program in 2019-20. He holds a career record of 50-6-5, including a 14-0-2 record in WIAC games. In 2018-19, he guided the Pointers to the first unbeaten season in Division III history and the sixth national championship in program history. Krueger was honored with the Edward Jeremiah Award as National Coach of the Year by the American Hockey Coaches Association and the USCHO.com National Coach of the Year. His 2018-19 Pointers set a program record with a 31-game unbeaten streak, had the highest winning percentage (.968) and allowed the fewest goals (46). He guided sophomore goaltender Connor Ryckman to the WIAC Player of the Year honor, one of two AHCA/ CCM All-Americans (Tanner Karty). His Pointers went 8-0-0 in WIAC play and won the WIAC Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons. He was hired as permanent head coach on May 31, 2018. He served as interim head coach for the 2017-18 season and led the Pointers to the Frozen Four. UWSP won the regular season WIAC title with an undefeated 6-0-2 record and he led the Pointers to an NCAA Tournament road win at Adrian in the

second round to advance to Lake Placid. Under Krueger’s tutelage, junior Tanner Karty earned WIAC Player of the Year honors and finished as the national leader in game-winning goals. Karty and goaltender Max Milosek earned ACHA/CCM AllAmerican honors in 2018 under Krueger. He spent the previous three seasons on the staff of former head coach Chris Brooks, most recently as associate head coach. He was a pivotal part of the Pointers’ three-year run to the National Championship game in 2014, 2015 and 2016. From behind the bench, Krueger helped UWSP win its first WIAC Tournament title and fifth National Championship in 2016. Prior to joining the coaching staff, Krueger was a four-year member of the Pointers hockey team. He skated in 79 games as a Pointer with two goals, 15 assists and a plus/minus of +34 for his career. He captained the 2014 team that reached the NCAA title game. Krueger graduated from UWSP in 2014 with a bachelor of science degree in health promotion and wellness. A Stevens Point native, Krueger and his wife, Hannah, currently reside in Plover.
