Explore and improve the world around you
My understanding of practical applications of scientific protocols is very high due to the amount of lab time I received at UWE Bristol. Learning labs skills is essential in personal and professional development as a scientist. It really gave the feel of how working in an academic lab will be. Hannah BSc(Hons) Biomedical Science
If you’re interested in investigating human health and disease, or want to discover the complexity and diversity of living systems, we have a course to suit. We offer biomedical and biological science programmes with a hands-on, practical approach giving you opportunities to build your skills in real-world situations. Perhaps wildlife ecology, conservation and the environment are your passion, or the fascinating world of forensic science? We offer those courses too. Work experience is vital if you want to develop confidence, professional skills and your networks. Thanks to our industry links, you can access inspiring work placements in the UK or overseas. We have excellent relationships with leading organisations including GlaxoSmithKline, the NHS and Bristol Zoo Gardens. Broaden your experience further through our field trips where you can explore fascinating habitats – from the Devonshire coast, to the tropical seas of Cuba, or the forests of Madagascar. Our students travel the world. Take your learning to the next level in our stand-out facilities. Explore new theories and enhance your technical skills in our dedicated study spaces. We’ve invested over £3 million in the latest lab facilities and technology. You can map habitats and gather data from drones using specialised software in our digital technology suite. Forensic Science students have access to our crime scene house and virtual environments to hone their investigation skills. As part of our active research community, you’ll learn from the best how to solve real-world problems. We conduct research alongside other universities and organisations – some 200 collaborations worldwide – including the BBC, AstraZeneca and the Bristol Urological Institute. This work is world-renowned. We are discovering ways to create energy from waste, how to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s and methods to increase crop yields. And you’ll get the chance to be involved as you can choose to work with a research group for your final year project. Sign up to science, and you really can change the world around you.
