The Art of Giving

Art Fair (T-shirt modeling)

Project Week 2021

Students organised an on-campus art fair and online alumni art auction this year, supported by Carissa Bardsley from the Philanthropy, Engagement and Partnerships team. The events formed part of Project Week, which aims to inspire first and second year students about the importance of philanthropy for the college.

Students were responsible for organising the on-campus event, and designing and producing the art for sale. The students had lessons in embroidery and were also mentored by alumna Bianca Gidwani (UWCA ‘08) on event planning, project management and delivery. A range of materials were produced by the students, including tote bags, t-shirts, stones, face masks and jewellery.

The art fair on 11 April proved to be a great success, attended by more than 200 students, who bought the hand-made items, watched performances and took part in creative art activities! The event raised £741.12 with all profits going towards Hideout, an initiative which aims to support the wellbeing of the community by offering students a place to relax and take time out.

The Art of Giving online auction took place from 21 June - 11 July, where a range of high quality artwork by current students, parents, alumni and staff went up for sale among the UWC Atlantic community. The auction raised £2,195, which will be used to help fund scholarships for 2021 entry students.

A huge thank you to Yotam Ben Gera (UWCA ’21) who designed and managed the art auction online platform and to all those that participated.
