Bubble Tea War

It send shivers down my spine to think there was a time that bubble tea (or as our American pals call it, boba???) didn’t exist. It has since taken over campus culture by storm. For the uninitiated, bubble tea, at is simplest, is a tea-based drink, often with milk, sugar and tapioca balls. Since its inception in the 1980s in Taiwan, the drink has since evolved to include many flavours and toppings. With Presotea by Hampden Road, Utopia in the city and the abundance of bubble tea stores around Perth, we wouldn’t be surprised if you’re spoilt for choice! To kick off your bobba journey, we’ve checked out three different spots and three different drinks for you.

Honey Creme Cheese Foam Beauty Berry Tea Aesthetics: 4/5 We love the sea turtles. Honey Creme’s sturdy cups not only make them better to be reused but their covers also encourages us to drink their teas without straws! Taste: 4/5 Cheese? With tea!? Yes you heard it right. But surprisingly enough, it works! The slight saltiness and savory taste of the cheese blends well with the slightly sweeter tea. Toppings: 2/5 Unfortunately, you wouldn’t be able to get any other topping other than the cheese. 10
