Migration, Integration and Ethnic Relations
Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (UU)
During this course, we discuss social scientific theories and empirical research on international migration, the socio-economic and cultural integration of immigrants and their children, and reactions of the host society. Migration has made European countries ethnically and culturally more diverse. While migrants try to find their way in a new and sometimes hostile environment, host populations also have to adapt to migrants and the new cultural, social and religious diversity they bring with them.

Contemporary Conflict Analysis
Faculty of Humanities (UU)
Actors, Issues & Technologies of 21st Century Warfare
This course equips scholars and professionals alike with cutting-edge knowledge and transferable skills for mapping, analysing and responding to warfare in the 21st century. Throughout the course we will address pressing questions like: How are terrorist organisations able to mobilize people towards violent action? Why do states outsource violence to paramilitaries, private military companies and drones? How do academics, practitioners and war journalists conduct research and report on these issues? Collectively, grappling with these different conflict dynamics in isolation and in relation to one another will turn you into a solid conflict analyst by the end of the Summer School.
