Welcome to Utrecht Summer School
We are very excited about the new Utrecht Summer School programme of 2023! We will once again offer about 200 academic summer courses across the disciplines, to students and professionals from all over the world, and at every level from Bachelor to Postdoc. We find that people come to us to broaden or deepen their knowledge, gain new insights or to update their skills. In Covid-19 years 2020 and 2021, we managed to organise over 160 events in which, in total, more than 3,300 people participated. In the summer of 2022 we welcomed over 3100 students to our on-site courses. A few online courses are also here to stay. A number of these students participated in new courses, such as the University Medical Centre Summer observership programme for refugeestudents and Applied Social Robotics (Hogeschool Utrecht). New courses are still being added to the 2023 offer.
We are extremely happy to continue our long-lasting co-operation with the Hogeschool Utrecht (University of Applied Sciences Utrecht) and with the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (University of the Arts Utrecht), whose courses are integrated in our overall programme. Additionally, we foster collaboration with our international partners in higher education. They enable us to host courses not only here in Utrecht but also in European cities such as Rome, Florence, Riga and Berlin.

I hope you will enjoy browsing through this brochure, which, you will find, is likely to contain something of your interest. I look forward to seeing you in Utrecht this summer.
Prof. dr. Henk Kummeling Rector Magnificus of Utrecht University

It is with great pleasure that I present the 2023 summer programme to you. This is the 37th edition of the Utrecht Summer School! It all started in 1986, with a course on Dutch culture, designed especially for students from international partner universities. Today, Utrecht Summer School offers about 150 courses in a wide range of disciplines, at all academic levels. Our programme attracts bachelor, master, PhD, post doc students and professionals, from all over the world.
We offer many interesting options, varying from arts and humanities to statistics, business, healthcare, psycholinguistics, engineering and technology. Our courses deal with important contemporary subjects such as Sustainability, European Politics, Game Research, Data Science, Global Health, Neuroscience and many more. Whether you are a PhD medical student, a bachelor student with a keen interest in business and economics, or a professional wanting to learn more about conflict management or global surgery, we are likely to have a course that suits your needs.
This annual brochure lists most of our courses, including course descriptions and information on target groups and entry requirements. In an average year, about 3,500 students enrol in one of the many Utrecht Summer School intensive summer modules. A number of course participants choose to take a combination of two or three courses. We attract both new and returning students. We offer (optional) on-campus housing.
You will always find the most up-to-date information on our website: www.utrechtsummerschool.nl. And feel free to follow us on social media. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
