WHO WE ARE The Center for Border Economic Studies (CBEST) is a public policy research unit dedicated to the study of problems and issues unique to the U.S./Mexico border economy and North Tamaulipas. CBEST conducts interdisciplinary research that support economic development, trade, entrepreneurship, innovation, social mobility, and access. Among its technical reports, the Center publishes the Border Business Brief (BBB) (a quarterly publication), and the Business Outlook Forecast (annual publication). CBEST has strategic partnerships with private sectors, foundations, government agencies, research scholars, and non-profits to fulfill its mission. CBEST in concert with affiliated scholars conduct policy-oriented research in five key areas of importance to the border region:

> Regional economic development and trade;

> The labor market and immigration;

> Health and environmental policy;

> Entrepreneurship and innovation; and

> Human and social capital development.

WHAT WE DO CBEST work: 1) Focus on interdisciplinary policy-relevant research in support of sustainable economic development. 2) Publish articles, monographs, books and reports that examine economic, social and political issues in the border region and make them available to policy-makers, business leaders, government officials, academics, students and border community in order to foster informed decision-making. 3) Create strategic partnerships with private sector, foundations, government agencies, research scholars, and non-profits to further policy-relevant research that leads to border area economic development. We produce two important publications that help the center fulfill its mission. 1) Border Business Briefs Border Business Briefs is a quarterly publication of the Center for Border Economic Studies (CBEST) at the University of Texas-Pan American. We publish articles focused on the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas, and North Tamaulipas. Our narrative is expressed through graphs, tables, and figures. Our publication covers topics in Border Security, Business functions, Economic development, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Human capital, Immigration, Manufacturing, Resource management, Social capital, and Trade. The articles we publish are research/analysis/policy focused on the needs of South Texas/Mexico border region. However, we will also publish articles that are of implied importance to the region. The Border Business Briefs produces four theme specific issues a year. 2) Annual Business Outlook Forecast The Business Outlook and Forecast (BOF) is an annual publication that forecasts economic activity in the State of Texas and Border Region. BOF publication produces a set of important economic indicators of future economic activity in the region. In addition, CBEST provides contract services in policy research, survey design, data collection, data research analysis, data interpretation, presentations and reports. These services are performed for a fee. Please contact CBEST for additional information on the contract services we provide.

WHO WE SERVE

The Center for Border Economic Studies (CBEST) serves the needs of the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas, and North Tamaulipas. The readers of our publications are primarily community, civic, and business leaders. More broadly, our readers are policy and decision makers.

Our target audience resides in the counties of Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Kenedy, Nueces, Starr, Webb, Willacy, and Zapata. In addition, we also reach out to business, economic development centers, and researchers in the municipios of Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Rio Bravo, and Valle Hermoso.

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES The work of the Center for Border Economic Studies is financed through contracts, grants, gifts and sponsorships. We accept gifts and sponsorships of any size. The order of sponsors is based on the sponsorship category (gift size) and time of gift. The display size is proportional to the sponsorship category. See example below.
